I've got electrical goods in mind. Start small with things such as keyboards and mice, if it seemed worthwhile, will get into more expensive stuff.

As a buyer I've only been 'scammed' once on ebay.

Back in the days of dutch auctions this guy had a lot of 50 digital cameras. So I bought one, but Wojtek being Wojtek I was a bit late to send in my payment. Which is a good thing, as it bounced back and was redelivered to my mailbox. Turns out the guy collected the other 49 payments and fled to Brazil...

you still buy at wholesale when you drop-ship, but, if you buy wholesale in bulk, and ship yourself, then you can get even better deals.

this crap happens all the time. that is why i stopped selling. i would sell to someone, and then all of a sudden they would want me to accept a check, and ship to Nigeria (back when this all first started) or Italy, or some other country. i did that once, and never again. lost $5,000. i also was going to purchase from a company in Italy for wholesale products, but, that was a scam too. i lost $1800 in that transaction trying to buy iPod nano's

If I ever do it, there won't be any third party companies doing the work for me. So ye, buying wholesale, doing everything myself. Can't really put a new company's reputation in hands of a stranger, can you?

if they are a reputable wholesale company, you will be fine. most will drop-ship for no extra charge. i am with a local wholesale company in AZ, and i have had them drop-ship a few things. never had a problem. get stuff the next day if it is local, and they will even put your company name on the invoice.
