    Lightbulb PHP Versions here

Could you please list your free host and the version of php running so we don't have to go thru the signup process only to find out they're running some old version?

    Thanks

It's free!!! You'll be lucky to get ANY version of PHP with free hosting! If your sooo picky, go get a paid hosting account! Most of the people here are happy with whatever they get!

In some cases the newest isn't the best solution. When they first released php 4.2.1 Vbulletin didn't support it, so if a host would have upgraded immediatly it would have knocked a few sites out of commision. It wasn't till vbulletin 2.2.6 was released that php 4.2.1 was supported.

I do think it's a bit odd that the CPanel install comes with php 4.0.6, that does seem a little old to me, but I guess I'll just update it, which shouldn't be a problem with CPanel.

message which is currently the newest release available
for the type of servers we are running.

How hard is it to go to
    http://uptime.netcraft.com/
enter the host's URL, and wait for the results.

It will end up saying something like
    The site www.xug.net is running Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_perl/1.24_01 PHP/4.0.6 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 on Linux. FAQ

    So XUG is running 4.0.6
    PHP50 is running the same.
