Well I know McAffee doens't have this..then again, I always surf with my Anti virus off because it's a damn resource hog.![]()
Hi all,
I'm using Norton Anti-virus 2001,and lately I've been getting 'reminder' messages to renew my "Update service for virus protection",since it will be expired in 20 days.
It means I will no longer be able to use Live Update to get protection from the latest viruses.
After reading about the issue,it appears you usually get a 12 month update service, and then you're supposed to renew it,meaning pay money every year ?
Now I've never heard of such thing,so I'd like to know what you people have to say about it...
If you can please open the main page of your NAV and look for "update service for virus protection" line in the system status.Tell me if yours due to expire as well.
Has anybody here finished his 12 months and bought again his update service?
It's just seems weird to me,cos I thought once you have the program you don't need to spend more money every year.
Thanx in advance !

Fame, get AVG AntiVirus from http://www.grisoft.com
It's free. It's good. It works. It's not a resource hog.

How can you be 100% sure? Even virus scans miss some viruses.Originally posted by nickmahon

I don't go to shady/warez/porn sites. Outlook filters mail viruses. I only download things that I know to be virus free... I scanned about a week ago with AVG just for fun, and I had 0 viruses. It was my first scan in about a year.

Yes, I did. Anyway, you can download the definations by a zip file, the Liverupdate updates your software too. You just need the definations right?
I didn't have AV software up until maybe less than a year ago (and thats in my ~7 years of being around computers). I just never get viruses.

Would you have even known what a virus was when you were six Ben?![]()

You're bound to get one someday (I'm not cursing you) Prevention is better than cure.![]()
The only time I ever get viruses is after my brother or father have borrowed the computer.![]()

Simply uninstall it. Go delete the folders it leaves behind in windows/program file, reboot, re-install, do your update. Then you have another 12 months and the same protection. NAV is far better than AVS or McCrappafy. I have an old 233pc I use for various testing and I have tested these and other antivirus programs. NAV was the only one to catch every virus I thru at it....which is why NAV is the one I use on my main pc's. I use NIS 2002.Originally posted by Fame

You can't install the virus definitions. It says your subscription is out of date and you have to pay.Originally posted by The Red Guy

it doesn't work that easily. You have to format your computer to renew your subscribtion service without paying.
