do registrars like networksolutions need to warn users when their domain name is about to expire? Or does the domainname owner hato to look after that himself/herself?

NetSol will send you snail mail when the domain is about to expire and as an added bonus, once you transfer the domain to another registrar, they will *continue* to send you warnings, heh. I got them for months after the name 'expired' (really didn't I just moved it from them).

P.S. That's NetSol ONLY. If you mean NetSol-like registrars, then it depends on each registrar.
