    Laptop - BIOS Settings: Reset?

For the past few months I have been looking into purchasing a new laptop for school, personal and work reasons.

The other day, I was given a laptop that had a few broken parts.. since than have fixed them.

It's a HP n5470 laptop with the following specs:

    - 1Ghz Athlon
    - 256mb of Ram
    - 15" Screen
    - CD-R/DVD Combo
    - Floppy Drive
    - 2 USB Ports
    - Ethernet/Modem

The hard drive was a 20GB IBM which was broken. So I ordered a new one, a 30GB. And I had to order an AC Adapter. I also have problems with the battery (but I ordered a new battery to rule out some factors).

Anyhow, everything is great. I've installed Windows XP, it runs terrific.

Bad News? I cannot access the BIOS w/o the password. The gentlemen who I recieved it from doesn't remember/know it. HP Won't give it to me because I don't have proof of ownership and neither does the original owner. Basically I'm screwed.

My last resort would be to open it up (again) and try to clear CMOS. But before I go off breaking anything (I have a bad feeling that I may - I'm good with computers, but not with laptops), I was wondering if there is a program that can crack it for me? The password that is..

It's a Phoenix Bios. I've tried the standard "backdoor" passwords from Phoenix with no help.

    ANY Help is appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

BTW: Athlons can be bad news in laptops!
