I will have always on DSL soon, and figure that it is easier to be my own server than it is to upload pointlessly to other servers that will die anyway. I know I need a good firewall, but can anyone direct me to a "HowTo" on what steps I need to be taking towards becoming my own server.

1. go to http://www.apache.org and download the apache server and extensions, such as php, cgi, mysql.
If you plan on using ssi, don't. it's a real ----- setting up.
2. get a connetion. the easiest way to get your server connected to the www is http://www.dns2go.com.
that's basically it. the 1st step requires some reading provided by apache.
I'm the kind of guy that would kick your --- for no reason...

SSI is the easiest part of apache to setup, just as easy as CGI and a lot easier than PHP and SQL.
SSI consists of one line the httpd.conf, and its already there, you just have to remove the "#" which comments it out by default.
How do you set up MySQL on windows 2000?

I didn't think you were suppose to run a web server off DSL........... or cable?
There are ways of getting around your isp. I ran a web server for 3 years and a very heavy traffic ftp for almost 4 years now. This is on my @home internet connection.
