    No!! Blast you RedHat~

    AN e-mail my friend got....

    Dear xxxx,

Thank you for being a Red Hat Network customer.

This e-mail provides you with important information about the upcoming discontinuation of Red Hat Linux, and resources to assist you with your migration to another Red Hat solution.

As previously communicated, Red Hat will discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0 as of December
31, 2003. Red Hat will discontinue maintenance and errata support for
Red Hat Linux 9 as of April 30, 2004. Red Hat does not plan to release
another product in the Red Hat Linux line.

With the recent announcement of Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.3, you'll find migrating to Enterprise Linux appealing. We understand
that transitioning to another Red Hat solution requires careful planning
and implementation. We have created a migration plan for Red Hat Network
customers to help make the transition as simple and seamless as
    possible. Details:

    ****************
If you purchase Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS or ES Basic before February 28, 2004, you will receive 50% off the price for two years.
(That's two years for the price of one.)

    ****************
In addition, we have created a Red Hat Linux Migration Resource Center to address your migration planning and other questions, such as:

    * What are best practices for implementing the migration to Red Hat
    Enterprise Linux?

    * Are there other migration alternatives?

    * How do I purchase Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS or ES Basic at the price
    above?

    * What if my paid subscription to RHN extends past April 30, 2004?

    ****************

Find out more about your migration options with product comparisons, whitepapers and documentation at the Red Hat Linux Migration Resource
    Center:

    http://www.redhat.com/solutions/migration/rhl/rhn

Or read the FAQ written especially for Red Hat Network customers:

    https://rhn.redhat.com/help/rhlmigrationfaq/

    Sincerely,

    Red Hat, Inc.

Limit 10 units. Higher volume purchase inquiries should contact a
regional Red Hat sales representative. Contact numbers available at

I'm sure Stallman will declare war against Red Hat...

Yes, that is true. They have a whole division in charge of product management and aquisitions. They are trying to overtake their compitition, instead of coming out with a better product themselves.

Sad to think that they are getting away with it too. You think people would never sell out to microsoft, but there are anly so many zeros you can say no to. When the check is big enough,,, they sell out.

    Sad... but true.

Since when does Microsoft own Red Hat?

You pay for hardware, you pay for your internet access, you pay for your electricity, etc. What is the whole big deal people have against paying for software?
Open source software is and never was meant to be free in the sense that you don't have to pay anything for the products that are based on it. All it means is that you have the freedom to do with the source code as you please which in 99.99% of the cases is absolutely nothing.

    Carebear,
I don't know the date they bought red hat, but they do indeed own it now.

The fact of having to pay for the software is not the issue. The issue is that micro soft screws up everything they get their paws into.

I be we see hosts moving to other versions of linux rather then going with a microsoft owned version that will suddenly find itself having the same hacker attacks as win servers have.

Now, if they happen to leave the developement end of it alone, then perhaps things will be fine, but I really can't see them doing that - can you honestly say that you think they will make it better ?

Sorry if I am on a bit of a rant, but I am already pissed at another microsoft problem I am trying to fix on my sons PC.
