testing PORT5.COM??

Hello!

I just wanted to know your opinion on http://www.port5.com, a server wich offers domain / subdomain hosting for free with no forced ads or search boxes . I havnt seen it in the freewebspace.net resouces, so i'll be happy if someone checks it out and gives me his/her opinion. It is a quite advanced server i think, it gives you statistics and lets you modify the zone file of your subdomains.

I actually tried to host my domain there, but i just don't know how to do it... i'm in Virtualave for now. All I need is a free server with quite high space and bandwidth, and NO ADS. Perferabliy CGI-BIN and FTP. Virtualave is not bad, but there's still ads.

yes, I knew that... there is also other FWS there, like http://www.hosting-made-easy.co.uk, i think. But what about the service? I was told it was very slow at some times, and very limites. Have any of you experienced with it?? I just need to know it it's a reliable server.

They're not going to work if you need much bandwidth. They only give you 100megs/month.

I have bad experiences using Port5. They deleted many of my files for no reason at all. And then it was very slow.

Try Snoop.dk, exit.de, f2s.com (exit was updating their systems this weekend, I think). Xodox offers something for you also. In my opinion they are all much better than Portland. Hmm... but they don't offer free domain hosting, do they(don't know)? Then I would try http://www.ovh.org if you know French... Then this Russian hosting sound really good http://www.holm.ru (in Russian).

What do you people think...is it better to have your site at less known FWP that's in Spanish for example...I just tought that maybe that limits the users/server to less than at providers that offer their services in English.

I'm spanish, and i have to say that here not all the servers are those unknown-but-good-service providers. In every country where internet technologies have arrived, there's a barrier of commercial ISP that doesnt let you see a very importante base of new-technology little internet firms. Those are the reliable and professional ones. The commercial are just exploiting what they once had, trying to increase their profit in quite cynic ways .

As I said, in all countrys there are those 2 levels of providers. This applys to Russia, Spain, France, etc. In USA or UK, you don't recieve the publicity of their commercial level, so you think that in those countrys there's only those minory-trustworthy ISP. But, you see, it's not true . And of course in USA or UK, there is also this barrier of commercial ISP, I guess you have realized it .

Well it's all I had to say. That was to clarify what you meant with "French/Russian/Spanish servers".

I've had VERY good download speeds from the French one but sometimes the servers are down (very rarely but in my case that is too much).

I'm from Finland and there's only one good FWP around but it's restricted so that you can't see the sites from abroad Finland. It's very fast, reliable, good, advanced etc. but I need real internet visibility. All the others (if they exist) are those teenagers having a little fun.

I'm mainly hosted at VirtualAve and it seems to be the best I have tried (tried quite a lot in my opinion). It's fast and reliable as you know but those banners/pop-ups with the text links...

There is a kind of provider which is called http://www.mydomain.com and i think it's quite serious. If I can't deal with the French or the Russian providers i'll maybe try to move the page to it. It has a quite good service which I think is called MyDNS

That is correct. There are also two other services that are similar:

http://centralinfo.net and http://zonedit.com

I know mydomain does stealth redirection (via frames), but I'm not sure about the other two. I think they do, but you'd have to check.

http://www.excelland.com is Russian and their service is pretty bad.
