who do you use?

i would like to have a general idea of all of the good and reccomended hosts here. just put the name of the host and their general specs for free hosting. the reason i do this is because i noticed that allot of the reviews of free hosts on the site are very random and realy give you no insight on whether you should go with the host or not. theyre just rants on how much they suck or just " THEYRE GREAT!!!THEYRE GREAT!!! THEYRE....."

yeah but in the host faq it says under "reliablility, topcities" and i know for a fact that topcities is not a reliable host. also, this is a small list compilled around 2 years ago. i figure that by now, hosts have changed and that if individual users post thier host, then theyre will be a larger list than the one you presented me with. also, spaceports and brinkster are nolonger free meaning that the list at hand is also inacurate and should be updated.

The HOST FAQ is very outdated, and needs to be updated. Maybe I'll work on it sometime and PM Jan what I come up with, since Conker hasn't been around for a bit (in this forum at least).

Anyway, being a member here for a while, I have seen plenty of hosts come and go or become unreliable. Right now, in my opinion, these are the best hosts, that are stable, and have stood the test of sometime:

www.lifelesspeople.com - Established sites only (or show a design), but they seem to have been providing very stable hosting with good features for a while now.

www.clubhost.us - AKA amz/U69 - Very high amount of space/transfer in accounts a long with the best length of features I have seen in a free host in a long time. They have been around for years (I think 7?) and still are stable. You do have to become an active member of their forum to keep your hosting, but that is a small price to pay for wha tyou get.

www.frostyhost.com - Probably one of the newest (newest meaning only a year or two old) hosts on this list, they are very stable and fast with good features. This is the host I use for my sites that are hosted freely.

www.hostultra.com - Yes, hostultra. They have been around for a while now, still offering "unlimited" packages, and seem to support them decently well. They do have pop-ups, but if you dont mind them, they have been pretty stable.

www.stormpages.com - Stormpages has been around for ages. They do put banner ads on the site, but they are very reliable. Not the biggest list of features though.

Well of course not. I can't post every host that every user uses, nor can anyone else. What I posted is my favorites. Every host has at least one user, so you can assume that wherever you go, someone else uses it.

(before someone goes all technical on my butt, yes i guess it would possibly to get a dedicated free server from one of those dingy sites and be the only user, but thats almost as unlikely as me growing an 11th toe.)

It might be a good idea to put in the rules that anyone who gets free hosting from the forums comes back after a bit and submits a short review, posted under the host name so that as hosts take people on they can just add to previous reviews, what do you think folks

SPACE: YOU request how much you think you need
DATA: some sites uses upto 13 GIG of data a month and don't get deleted if its LEGIT files and traffic
DATABASE: you must really need it and your site proves to require.
AD: small button on page / POP UNDER for heavy traffic site ( over 10 GIG a month )
