The IP numbers you gave above are on a Sprint DSL account
In any case, I can reach their site just fine.
That's debatable especially considering we've been around over 7 years.they probably were the #1 free hosting provider.
I'm also puzzled by that statement since it appears that they are
running their service off of a DSL connection. DSL and Cable Modems
don't have nearly enough bandwidth to run a stable hosting service.
If they are running off a DSL, the connection is pretty fast, as DSL's upload speed is very slow.
I don't trust anyone hosting in a none datacenter. No matter if the machine is a co-lo or dedi, as long as parts are good, sitting in a datacenter, it then can be trusted.
Are they lying or what:

I think they just reseted today.
By the way, what is the configure of the Free Account there? Could not see any page detailing it, except a Free Trial for sign up.
The information that I saw says that their IP number is a DSL account.Originally Posted by qll

SDSL is not like the typical ADSL in that both the upload and download
are the same speed. Normally, you sacrifice download speed to create
a balance in upload speed when you have SDSL. Even with the increased
upload speed of SDSL, it still really isn't enough to run a hosting service ...
As I said before, DSL or Cable Modem accounts are NOT enough for any
kind of real hosting service.
In their defense, I know absolutely nothing about the company whatsoever
other than what I have seen looking at their web site and investigating
the IP number for that web site so it is at least theoretically possible that
they have some sort of unique configuration or don't run their customer
sites off of the same internet connection as their own web site. I would
need some sample customer addresses to know for sure.
Right now, I'm just looking at the information on their own web site only
and that address definitely looks like it's running off of a Sprint DSL account.

I am an ex-customer of FR&T (www.frandt.com) - I was only with them for a couple of months trying to use them to host a couple of small but professional sites (I'm a webdesigner).
Their uptime record was absolutely terrible - down daily, sometimes for in excess of 10 hours at a time. On one occasion when their 24 year old 'CEO' did reply to me the excuse he gave was the downtime was due to his 'techs' learning on the job - they were trying to upgrade BIND/DNS. Obviously doing it on a 'live' system without testing it on a backup box first - !!!!!!!!
On other occasions when I submitted 'critical' helpdesk tickets they were simply ignored. Emails to tech support bounced telling me that the inbox was over it's quota!
In the forums I was told to not be so impatient, and to stop complaining! You will note that the forums are populated with kids - some of whom are not old enough to buy beer - with free hosting accounts who think they're getting a really good deal (well, free is good). But I was a paying customer - and as such I was subsidising their free accounts.
When I questioned the '100% uptime' statement on their home page, I was told that 'all' hosting companies measure uptime where if any of their systems are up, they are up. So if an old Win95 box in the office is switch on, they won't count it as downtime - !!! - this is certainly not the case. They have recently been hard down because they are still trying to get BIND/DNS working - making all access to hosted websites, email, etc etc fail. Even their own website, ticket system, forums etc have been down too.
Have a look on their website under 'staff' (if you can catch them on a good day when you can actually connect to their site). Marvel at how little experience these people have in the real world.
Very, very, very bad. Keep away!
I am a bit disappointed, obviously people here are not that technically enclined...
After investigating this myself I have found not only are the NOT on a DSL network, but they have 5 *THAT IS FIVE* class C IP ranges:
Reverse DNS for 70.150.212.8
Generated by www.DNSstuff.com
Country: UNITED STATES
Preparation:
The reverse DNS entry for an IP is found by reversing the IP, adding it to "in-addr.arpa", and looking up the PTR record.
So, the reverse DNS entry for 70.150.212.8 is found by looking up the PTR record for
8.212.150.70.in-addr.arpa.
All DNS requests start by asking the root servers, and they let us know what to do next.
See How Reverse DNS Lookups Work for more information.

By the way, yes I have a site with them, and have had it for over 2 years, I have "VISITED" their facilities, and better yet, maybe to tell you WHO I am would be the best thing... The above is "MY" web site, however, I work for the US Department of Treasury, and as we all know we sell "COINS", well, guess who is in charge of placing this commerce site up on the net? Me... Who did I choose for the task? FRandT, there is no better choice period.
I dare say that there's always a better choice. Running off DSL instead of hosting at a data centre is a big difference in terms of speed unless your website don't get much visitors. In this case, FRandT definitely did not do a very good job.
Note that this is an OLD THREAD -- but I like the idea of tracking a single host in a single thread. (Some of my moderator bretheren disagree with me.) I just mention it here so nobody thinks all this transpired today.

We didn't read did we? Well for the record here it is again:I dare say that there's always a better choice. You: "instead of hosting at a data centre...."
I said: "I have "VISITED" their facilities"
Wait, let me clarify just in case.
I have "VISITED" their facilities, in which the data center itself was (approximately) about the size of a foot ball field, maybe it appeared bigger with all the servers, maybe it made the data center appear smaller.
You: "Running off DSL"
Well I didn't really make that clear so here it goes:
Unless DSL runs in two small looking red wires with "Multi-Mode" written all over it, also coming into a media converter splitting it out to 6 different terminating routers, I would say their connection is a bit faster than DSL
Again I have been there. Quite amazing to me, you arrive, wait in reception for about 20 mins, with refreshments available, then you get a visitor's pass, then go back and let an admin scan their thumb on a optical scanner, then proceed to our server cabinet.... I would call that a serious business.... Else we wouldn't/couldn't have chosen them as per federal regulations.
Also just a "hint", as walking pas their legal department, I counted 14 head, whether they are all attorneys I don't know, however I urge you to consider that and consider that content within this thread can be referred to slander, and can be held "punitive" in a cout of law if someone here has caused a disadvantage of any kind to their company... Just a hint, take it or leave it
.
Also about the DSL thing, Were in the hell does anyone see that? I have done an IP lookup more than 8 times now at www.dnsstuff.com and I cannot seem to find it anywhere after clicking on all the handles...
Also, how can I get a 320 Kilobyte per second exchange rate on a down stream from them? This would mean that their upstream would have to be at least 2.5 Mbps right? Also is this possible with DSL (aDSL or sDSL whatever?) Also 5 Class C addresses, no one can tell me it is possible to have over ONE THOUSAND public STATIC IP address on a darn DSL connection, this is absurd! I've been in the IT industry for 14 years, please don't mistaken me for being ignorant in this subject... If you want to bash someone because you don't like them or possibly they are putting you out of business, fine, however accept the responsibilities when they send that 14 head of legal agents after you.
One more question....
How does a company, that has such a bad rep as you guys state (not concluding freewebspace.net but the posters herein) how can you search this company on Google, with 2 key words "webhosting OC11" and they come up as #1. To my knowledge, Google bases more than 75% of their ranking structure on "POPULARITY". So it is now assumed that they are popular.... So either they are a VERY GOOD company, in which my opinion is blunt, or they are so unpopular it is like a freak show. I very much so doubt that it is the other way around. Being Uncle Sam (The United States Government) trusts them, I would say they are pretty much reputable.
That term is "shared hosting OC-11" in google where they are #1, they are number 3 on the other one, and under "webhosting T-3" they are first.
