I've had a Web site with a company for well over 5 years and it has been a generally good experience. Few outages and, since I hardly ever had a problem, I seldom had to ask for help.
Based on this experience, I ordered a new account for another business. It was a bit difficult to get signed up, but I managed somehow. They took my money and sent me a 7 page "welcome" letter saying that the domain would "propagate" in 24-48 hours. A week later it still wasn't up.
It's impossible to reach any real person at this company by telephone. "Due to their rapid growth" they don't have anyone to answer the phone. They ask that you leave a message, but nobody calls back.
On the few occasions I've gotten their attention via e-mail, all I get back is a bunch of boilerplate saying that they've received my message and that they'll respond soon.
They do not - at least in no meaningful way. They avoid the question(s) asked and play dumb.
Evidently I ordered a Windows platform site and should have ordered Unix. That is what I have already and I've learned to work with it. I want the new site to function just like my first one but I'm getting nowhere. We've been at this since May 27.
This morning, in frustration, I sent them an email telling them to cancel the new account and to refund the money paid. There has been no response. I expect none.
The offending service is Hosting.com
As I said, my experience has been good, but I fear they may be having some serious problems. When this happens, service is the first thing to suffer.
I want a good, reliable, STABLE hosting service that will respond to my needs. I'm not concerned with their excuses.
Right now I pay $39 a month for 100 MB of server space. I don't know if that's too much or too little. What I want is SERVICE and if it costs a little more it's worth it.
My "good" Hosting.com account has something called WSM that allows me to manage my account pretty easily. I need that or something just as simple and easy.
I need FrontPage extensions. One service told me they didn't have it (I really don't know what it is, but I do all my Web work in FrontPage so I guess I need it.) I've also got some Perl scripts running, but beyond that, I have very little idea of what goes on within the hosting service, and I haven't got time to futz with a new learning curve.
In a word, I want to "push the button" and the right things happen. And when they don't, I want somebody to fix them - pronto - not give me a lot of baloney about how busy they are or that they'll get back to me in 24-48 hours - or days - or never.
Thanks for listening. I hope to receive some positive comments and direction soon.

I am not a fan of too cheap thing either
