Free content sites
Anyone use free content sites? You know, the ones where they point you to various free content areas, such as games and articles, free feeds etc. The big one out there, Freesticky, doesnt keep up to date with theirs, they havent posted a new article in 2 years. Another problem, they have what is called a loop, when you go to another folder, you cant get back to another in their navigation, you get a 404 file. This is caused by copy and pasting one or more links to another folder, and leaving them, thus it creates a bad link to a file that doesnt exist. Also, some of their links lead you to now defunct websites and are ad farms to other sites.
It is a good site, but this is beginning to irritate me. So I am doing my own Free Content site. One thing I have thought of doing is having a forum where users can submit their own content (just in case I miss anything) and have others rate it. Hence, the forum itself would become sticky, perhaps more so than the site itself. I am going to have classifieds on there as well, I dont really know what type of material I want on there yet, maybe something like service and link exchanges, for free of course. This would give me access to email addresses etc, thus creating an opportunity for a secondary mailing list aside from a newsletter. Pull them in, then push them later. Does this sound like something the general webmaster would be interested in? Something other than a static website to get content, and thats it. This one would have a number of features to keep you coming back. |

I would use some CMS for that, such as PostNuke.
That would allow all sorts of content submissions and ratings. ![]() If you need any help, give me a shout. |

I think this is better in the programming forum.

Sorry about that, it started as a general question though, and went there.
