Can I use my own paid domain name on a FREE web host?

Is there a free web host that allows one to use their servers to host a domain name I have paid for? I would welcome replies from both users and web hosts.

And do they do this without using redirects, frames, etc.? I want others to be able to link to specific pages using MY domain name.

Ad banners, etc. are OK of course, since they have to pay for the service.

How much free bandwidth?

Do they allow FTP on the free hosting?

To summarize: I am looking for:
- my own domain (not subdomain) name. I pay for it.
- no redirects, frames, etc..
- FTP
- Free web hosting
- Some free bandwidth. Whatever I can get.

Some allow it, some don't. http://www.breezeland.com allow this and I think they run very good services, you should check them out. That's the only host I can think of right now but I'm sure you will get some other replies.

I get the impression that reliability may be a problem with many free web hosts suggested to me in this thread.

My personal experience is with 3 big ones that have been around a while: Tripod, Angelfire, FortuneCity. No problems. I an not sure any of these 3 allow hosting of one's own domain name, though.

But now when I check out some of the suggested free hosts that allow hosting of one's own domain name, I get the impression that some have many problems. Or may be promising too much.

Is http://www.netfirms.com one of the more reliable ones even though they max out at one gigabyte of free bandwidth?

I am gathering this info for others too.

What is the best package of reliability and bandwidth. Which ones have been around the longest that allow hosting of one's own domain name?

well, as i know, hostultra is pretty fast enough . but they don support pop3 email .but u can get a good and free pop3 at some where else nowadays .. www.myrealbox.com is the best for pop3 .

Our domain hosting is not a frame or a redirect or anything similar, its real domain hosting.

well, am sure netfirm allow personal site hosted.

erm hostultra ? they had been quite a time. they are on bussiness so they can cover their free hosting , but make sure u wont be annoying and complaine bout their popunder ads.

he only offer free space to U.K. ,U.S.A. and some others countries but he do not offer to asian countries

It may not have mySQL, but if you need a database real bad then use fwsh and http://www.unlimited-sql.com together. Also, email their support if you have and trouble. It usually doesn't take them too long to fix whatever problem you're having. Fwsh is good.

Even if www.hostultra.com eventually can't afford to provide "Free Webhosting with Unlimited Space & Bandwidth" maybe you could still offer this the first year of hosting a free website.

And then drop down to at least 1 gigabyte of free bandwidth a month. That seems to be the norm. I won't put mirror sites on free hosts anymore that offer less than that. If you offer 1.5 gigabytes of free bandwidth a month after the unlimited bandwidth year you would be offering more than nearly all the other free webhosts.

I think a lot of people just initiating their own new domain name would appreciate this. Because they could get started with your free web hosting without worries, and learn what their bandwidth needs are before committing to paid hosting at your service or elsewhere.

It takes a few months to a year to see what kind of hits a website will be getting from Google and other search engines. My website and mirrors get around 90 percent of their hits from search engines.
