Half-Life Mod Source

Well, I recently started up a site, mostly on impulse, but I started it. It's called Half-Life Mod Source, which is a site for listing mods, giving short reviews, ratings, and a bunch of links to the mod homepages and downloads...

There's not a whole lot on it right now (only 7 mods), mostly because it's new, secondly because I'm the only one writing for it right now, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it thus far:

I'm not good at graphic design AT ALL. That banner was done with paint, so don't give me too much critisism on it. I know it sucks.

Ok your site is actually quite good apart from a few things.
1. Your site is to grey! Get some mroe colours into it im not saying go mad make ur site look like a hippie lived there but change something! e.g. a white background might be ok.
2. The big wrench on your header ruins it. Remove the wrench and find if you can a kool barren landscape image make it look like the half life guy is standing there looking around will make it look alot beter trust me!

That should improve your site alot. You wont need to change much more apart from maybe layout of text but it looks ok.

Yeah...I sorta got the same feeling. I've gotta experiment with some colors still...

That sounds like a REALLY good idea. The only problem is my artistic abilities...
I've got photoshop, but I've hardly ever used it...mostly my brother just uses it. Like I said though, the header sucks and I made it in paint, so I've gotta get something new up aside from that.

I'll try using photoshop a little bit to see if I can't try to pull something off like that. Thank you VERY much for the comments.

If you can find a decent image its very easy just create a new layer on top of the current image insert the barren landscape in the position you want then move the layer to the bottom and the text and guy will be ontop of it

I tried changing the background color to just white, and it seemed a little plain...I think I might need to change all of the colors, which isn't a problem at all. Well...it's not a problem at all, after I find good colors.

Anyhow, as for the banner, I don't even know how to do layers, though I know what they are...I can probably get my brother to show me or find some sorta tutorial or help file. Or something. But with that last comment there by you, it makes it sound a lot easier than when you first described it...lol

I think its possible to make grey work, ie. could assume the radioactive waste land to be the scheme.

Perhaps grey back ground image is the key, much easier to do than layers.

I think the main problem is the black colour of the text not providing enough contrust, animate the text colour to be like radioactive glows could be a good attraction.

I would, but how am I supposed to make it glow green? I dunno hardly anything about PhotoShop, but I do have it. I can do layers and cutting things out and manipulating graphics I already have, but when it comes to creating something from nothing, I'm no good...Are there any sites I could use to get that effect? I dunno if flamingtext.com has anything, but if they do, lemme know...

I gotta try to be more creative. I'm not so great at that.
