FortuneCity is a place that encourages interaction with its "citizens". As of June, 1999 they had 1,920,000 registered citizens in FC and the network received more than 110 million impressions per month making it one of the top 30 sites on the net (accoring to Media Metrix and Fortunecity). What also makes Fortunecity special is the democratic community where you as a member can take a more active part in your online community.

Fortunecity has won the summer poll 98 for 'best free webspace provider' officially held here at FreeWebspace.Net's Voting Area. They also won 'best help/support' and 'best online editor'.

Offer 20 MB free space, upload via browser and ftp. Choose area and street for your homepage. Also offering a UK/Irish, a german and a swedish version. You can't use your own CGI scripts here, but they have some very useful scripts for you to use; date, time, guestbook, counter and form-mail. Since this provider is getting extremely popular, their server can be slow sometimes but most of the time it is fast enough.

They have a code that is automatically inserted into your page when you first sign up, after that you must cut and copy a html-code to all your other pages. If you don't do this, they have a banner bot that goes through and inserts the code to your pages automatically, which sometimes messes up the page.  So better if you insert it yourself. (Thanks to Poss) The banner bar is a banner plus several small buttons. You can place the code for the bar anywhere on your page, but it has to be placed on every page.
