Another new cheap host cost only $14 set up fee

What weird practices? Peculiar you say they have been down. For me they went down sometime after 04.05 GMT, that's about 2 hours ago.
They are a little mysterious though. Hard to figure out what it's all about. I think about it as a lottery ticket - let's hope we win. ;)

Well last night I couldn't log into my control panel (auth error even though I checked my login 100 times over), couldn't access my FTP, and this morning I can't access my site or even directoris.com.

Weird practises? Just some trivial things, like having no "real" pop3 servers, no SMTP servers at all, no wildcard subdomains, a mySQL database without any way to access from outside (security reasons, they say), a mySQL manager that isn't as good as phpMyAdmin (but you can install it).

At least it's just a one time $14. Yeah I hope we win the lottery.

Sure we will win!
What you say about mySQL is sounds bad, but I wouldn't know. But subdomains, come on, some cheap hosts don't allow them at all or they are limited or come at an extra cost.
Yep, now they are down all right. 15 hours. Thinks they are in Rio sipping on drinks with little umbrellas? ;)

in there Terms and Conditions it states the following:
"2.6 In the case of an individual User, you warrant that you are at least 18 years of age and if the User is a company, you warrant that the Services will not be used by anyone under the age of 18 years."

just thought this might be interesting for companies

Site's back up, mine and directoris, although very slow. MySQL access is fine; I don't know what you mean by being able to access it from outside; all I know is that I installed phpMyAdmin and my vBulletin runs fine. The no STMP server kills, but oh well. It's $14; maybe they'll get one when the $14 offer ends (June). All I really care about is the speed. WAY too slow.

My friends site works but mine redirects to Directoris. I can see the files with ftp. :(
I'm mostly interested in how they will handle this. I'm waiting for an email...
Anyway, I don't think one can pass a judgement on their service, good or bad, before everything is finished. Remember f2s has been "experimental" for close to a year! ;):p

Well this thread has grown! Directoris seems to be a good host, but i'am waiting and watching. 21st june is a far far away. How did you guys pay?

Visa. I live i a country where the banks want us to bother them as little as possible, so any other way would have cost me more than the account.

Coalesce,I wonder if the speed problems you had before could have been a routing thing? I pinged them at about 220 ms before the downtime and at about 205 now. Maybe that old UK problem isn't over after all?

Would be nice if they put a board up.

I just signed up for them. Waiting for the dns to point right. We'll see or they have what thay say!

As soon as I get to design my new site the true power of directoris will come up (I hope). Well, the design may take some time.

meow: I'm not sure. I live in the US, all that matters is I'm getting fast speeds now. I pinged my site at 138ms and directoris at 140ms, so everything seems good now.

All I know is that the speed now is great...for now, these guys seem great. I'd pay $30 a month for what they offer. The only thing I don't like is the 5 gig bandwidth limit...oh well, no host is perfect. Anyways if these guys continue the service I'm getting now they should become one of the best hosts out there.

Don't remember. Think it took 5-6 hours. Anyway well within the time limit they state. And hat was on a Sunday.
Coalesce - maybe they will offer upgrades later. They should want the money.
