Are CD burners going to replace MP3 players?

I don't know how many of you guys have a CD burner, or how many of you have an mp3 player, but do you think portable MP3 players are going to survive with CD-rw drives becoming so popular? I don't know, but I like having all of my music on one type of media (CD). That way i can play it on anything that has a CD player. And CD-R disks are getting really really inexpensive. Just the other day I bought a 50-pack of 74-min CD-R's for just 10 bucks after rebates. And the burning software has gotten so easy to use, it's almost just drag and drop.

I know people that are ripping their whole CD collection to MP3 to listen on their MP3 player.

ok, if I had some money I would make this and I would be rich. So if you see some company making one of these it cuase of me ok? hehe.

anyways here is what they need to do, make a portable cd player that can play reg cd's and also have hardware mp3 decoding so you could put songs on a cd r in mp3 format. That would allow you to have 650+megs of songs on some thing that only like 20 cents. Compaired to mp3 players, this is really really really really really really cheap. I think they might have full sterios that can do this but am not sure.

I am sure that this will happen and it will be the best solution.

Too late... They're already out there. I've seen one walkman type unit advertised for $129 (US) Plays regular CD's and has an MP3 decoder so it can play MP3's from a CD

Hot shit! I'm getting one of those after Christmas :D $129 is nothing. I can have a whole mix to last me through school all day long without ever switching a CD. Thanks for telling me Rick, damn I'm excited now :)

i was watching some entertainment news show, they were talking about some new product is like a discman only its hard drive that can hold up to 6 gigs of mp3's. he said that was something like 100 cds. Connects to your computer via a USB port. It looked intresting but i just bought a cd burner last week, so i'll be sticking to cds.

It's called the Nomad Jukebox. $499.99 at BestBuy. Holds 6GBs of mp3s. Has the ability to encode mp3s imported from CD players, connects to your computer. Has an LCD screen with a little library type iface. It's blue and shaped like a 'D'. I'd just say stick to CD-R's. Now if I wasn't a g33k that hangs out at Best Buy, I wouldn't know that ;)

The MiniDisc fan reccomends you get a MiniDisc player... much better. Although MP3 Discman's are very cool and cheap.

I personaly don't see a point in spending so much on a Nomad Jukebox when the batteries would run out about 30 times before you got through all the music. ;)

Legal Note: Supermoo just had a guess! there was no data or brain power used in the operation.

The cd/mp3 players that are out are very cheaply made and overall crapy. I wish they would play cd rws cuase I could change my music alot more hmmmmmmmmmmm

Phillips has released the eXpanium mp3 cdr/rw discman. The first big name brand to come out with one. Apparently it supposed to be the best quality mp3 discman out right now, but it doesn't read ID3 tags..

Theres alot of Car CD-Players that support MP3 decoding...They've been out for some time but portable mp3-cd players are just now starting to sprout.
