Hi,
I used to use NVNCBL Chatterbox, but it terminated its services on 11/12/2005 :crysad:

It had great features such as: 100% color customization,
IP banning, Unlimited archive (none deleted), No maximum post character limit, In-box post deletion, On/Off censorship, flood control, custom censored word lists, smiley sets
Tag-Board mode or Flooble mode, On/Off Post Info (IP/Date/Time), Online user counter, remotely hosted, and more you get the idea.

I use MYSHOUTBOX.COM on one blog, but my other blog has a different color scheme/layout so I'd like to use a different tagboard there.

I'm interested in the variety & quality of the different tag/chat boards for blogs & websites out there.
The people here always are up on the latest, so is there a stable chat/tagboard out there that has good features?
What are people using now?

Thanks :classic2:

I downloaded the files to check your tagboard out. The README says:
"CHMOD db.txt to 666. If you
don't know how, use google :p"
Is that Perl? I'm not sure how to do that :snail:

I am not sure what CHMOD means. If I can't figure out yours, I'll try one of the others mentioned above. I thought I'd look into yours because you are a member of this forum :)

I wrote "CHMOD db.txt to 666" into Google
http://www.google.com/search?q=CHMO...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

It wasn't that helpful; is there another online reference that would be more helpful to a beginner?

Most FTP programs allow you to right click on a file and be able to chmod it. It changes file permissions.

You should be promted with a screen allowing you to enter a number, or check off some boxes. If its checkboxes, you should check them to look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Chmod666.jpg

That's interesting. I like this forum because it's possible to learn something new each login session.

What about FileZilla, does that have a chmod permissions or is the permission deal something one gets with a hosting account so that some may be able to do that but not others?

Just wondering and anyway this thread has given your PHP program some exposure :)
You have a very nice site by the way :)

If you're hosted on a unix/linux server (which most are), it has the chmod function enabled. Windows doesn't have chmod, but its not needed.

In filezilla, right click the file and choose "File Attributes" to chmod the file.

(Exposure is good ;))

I think I am hosted on a Linux server but my blog is created and modified with http://www.blogger.com/

Would someone right click a file in Filezilla -- the file that will hold your shoutbox/tagboard/chat program?

What would you say to people who have blogs with Blogger.com?
The template of that blog is modified through Blogger, not with an external FTP program (such as Filezilla).

I was thinking of putting your chatbox here

The only file that needs to be right-clicked an chmodded is db.txt, which is where posts are stored.

I don't think blogger allows scripts to be uploaded, so I would reccomend uploading the script to some host. Then putting the <iframe> tag in your blogger template having the href value be http://yourhost.com/you/whatever/tagbox/.

So much for Blogger :knockedou
Perhaps I'll put it on a regular page, not a blog :wink2:
The 2 current blogs I have right now are popular, but some of my regular pages in my site are popular too.

I've given up

Tag boards & chat boxes are not worth the hassle.
Every "free" one becomes non-functional, so I've given up.

Maybe a Mod would close this thread? :tired2:
