broadband

I live in the UK and would like to get broadband, however, my area is not enabled by BT and I do not have cable. Are there any other options available to me in order to get broadband?

THanks

Some areas are using wireless access and there is also satellite access, but that's rather expensive

Like Rick said, your only real alternatives are wireless or satellite, neither of which being an ideal alternative. Have you tried checking how many people are needed for your exchange to be enabled?

I'm really glad I live in an area where both are available. I'm afraid it's a waiting game to see whether your exchange will be enabled or cable will be installed. Also, have you tried checking other sites to see if your exchange has been enabled, sometimes sites give you different information.

I live in the uk, and saw a magazine in wh smiths the other day, it listed all cable, satalite porviders in the uk, there is loads, more than 50-100 - some are quite cheap even the satalite ones.
Can't remeber the name of the mag but it did say cable/satalite isp rated and reviewed on the front - if thats any help..

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll find out about the satellite and wireless options. I checked availability on the freeserve and BT websites and both said it was unavailable. BT won't say how many people have to register an interest in the exchange for a 'review' to be 'triggered'.

Cheers

My village has 40-50 I think, you can download a flyer on the BT website to drum up support in your village for people to register on various ISPs. I think I might do that and usher in the new century round here!!

Well, we share an exchange with 2 villages ... around 100 houses in total together ... I think :cry2: .. BT has 600 per exchange on average went set... ours isn't even set

I watch the Discovery Channel, and it's always showing tribes and their villages in Africa. Now I wonder how many of those half naked guys are running a webhost! :D

Come to think of it, they never show the insides of those straw huts. They might have entire networks going on there.

Me Chief! Me admin of <insert host here> :p

I'm just givin ya a hard time. I know your villages are prob more like what we call "towns" here in the states..heh

That's pure prejudice, even if they did speak English like that (not that they'd know how to anyway).

Just remember, they were once far more civilized than the Europeans. ;)

Maybe this village is part of a Russian funded research to bring down the internet! Awww..... just my wishful thinking. :D

Maybe these "villages" are large "organizations" completely employed by "good family men" trying to bring down the internet and turn the world into Sicily, with all this headed by two supposedly Singaporean dudes named L'Homme Rouge (The Red Guy) and TrenzTerra!

I should lay off the caffeinated drinks....
