Whats wrong with a host wantin to place a banner on your site?
Do you want to move your site every month or do you want to know itll be around as its been said before

YOU HAVE TO PAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER

heres a hint:

choose what type of ad. Banner ads usually have the least impact on page look. And pop-ups are annoying as hell
So in short go with the banner

I agree with the banner placement stuff, but try to be a bit more courteous to the people here.

POINTS for a banner site..

1.It shouldn't be a FRAME!
2.You should be able to select where to put it!

:( Popunder sucks too..

I use to see the one..it is very cool..
they pop under..and disappear quite fast.

I seen many good frame sites get spoiled by ugly --- banners.

Yes, and that is one of the reasons why so many free hosts use pop-unders instead of inline banners - pop-unders will not wreck frame based sites.

beggars can not be choosers.
you have no right to say or demand how free webhosts should diplay their banner ads. they are providing free services to you. take it or leave it.
what i seriously don't understand is Why do you need free webhosts when there are extremely cheap webhosts like www.discount-hosting.com . If you can't afford 10 dollar / year, something is seriously wrong with you.

One problem with this is that people often put it at the bottom of their site, banners should be placed at the top of every page.

That is why I side with the idea of a pop-under or a pop-up.

Maybe so, but some (actually, quite a few) of us are minors, so we don't have credit cards.

Maybe you always have enough money for everything you want; but not everybody does. And even if they do, there are also other obstacles, such as not having a credit card; as mentioned above, or just being too young.

Aside from that, not everybody has a serious site, some people only want to make a little fan site, or personal site, and it's just a hobby, so why should they pay? They're not getting anything for it, and the site isn't business-related, so why should they pay?

Maybe $10 per year doesn't sound like a lot, and it isn't to me - but to some people it is, and others don't have the means to pay this $10.
Does that mean that there is something wrong with young people like myself, who haven't got a credit card? Or other people who don't wish to pay for a small personal site? You should think about the comments they make, before you make them.

I agree... You think our parents would let us use credit cards to pay for WEB HOSTING? Especially since it's just a hobby site...Think for once...

Actually yes. My dad pays $29.95/month for my webhost... aand he said he would cancel it if I don´t get my site up soon.

Now that was uncalled for; and just a plain stupid remark. Maybe you always have enough money for everything you want; but not everybody does. And even if they do, there are also other obstacles, such as not having a credit card; as mentioned above, or just being too young.

Yeah, the internet wouldn't have exploded the way it did if it weren't for free webspace providers. If you were on the internet before Geocities appeared in 1995, you'd probably know how boring it was then. The internet would have stayed that way had it not been for free webspace providers.

However, I do agree with the starter of this thread in that one should just accept advertisements on his or her site if they will not pay actual $$$ for hosting. After all, many webmasters who pay for hosting end up placing their own ads on their sites anyway to earn back some of the cash they've shelled out for their sites, so by accepting the ads from free hosts, you can think of it as saving the hosting fee.

I, for one, have no problems with any kind of ads hosts place on your site. I tend to prefer pop ups because all my sites are frames. These hosts offer you free hosting, placing their banner on your site is the least you could do in return...

I agree with chips on that comment. Im also a minor with no credit card. If you are used to paying on the internet then there is no reason why you shouldnt get paid hosts (apart from if your site is tiny and has 3 visitors in a month who decide to randomly type an address in and see what they get), because of how cheap it is. But let me tell you that paying 50 cents is SUUCH a big step from paying nothing, despite the little cost.

I myself work for my space, i dont have anything to whine about.

And yes, it is possible for a person to have a computer, and the internet, without having the money to be able to pay for hosting as well. Having a computer and internet access doesn't make you rich, and it certainly doesn't guarantee you have money to spend on hosting, when you could just as easily get free hosting.

My point is - Look at the situation realistically. Maybe you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth; but not all of us were.

And think about it...our parents buy all the computers and pay for the Internet access. I actually use a shared computer with the rest of my family, so I really don't get much privacy or time. :)

I probably make more money at my job than any other teenager anywhere here. But the fact is, I DON'T HAVE A CREDIT CARD.
