hi guys,

three days ago, i tried to download a game from frostwire (its like limewire), it was an exe file which i tried downloading. once i double clicked on it, a message came up warning me that it may contain a virus. i ignored the message and continued to download. Once the download was complete, the game wont open up.

And from then on, my computer had gone so slow. there are no viruses, spyware or adware on my pc as i have scanned my computer. i have even installed 'speed up my pc' and still my computer is slow. i cant restore my computer becuase the last time a good configuration was set was the time i had installed that game!

what can i do guys... plz help!!!

try to roll the computer back a month or so while in safe mode.

if that doest work, sounds like you are screwed and you need to re-format the drive

it is good to listen to those virus warnings, and if you are going to get stuff like warez, might want to consider torrents. you are just asking for trouble with anything like frostwire or limewire, but, be best just to save your money and buy the game legally. ;)

i dont think it will allow me to roll back a month but plz tell me how to do it in safe mode

You've got the WinAntiVirus virus. While it is possible to make it go dormant, it is not possible to fully remove it without completely reformatting.

Actually, there is.

If you do indeed have the WinAntiVirus, kill the virus, and then follow this topic here.

Here <--

Apparently, the aftermath is a malware/trojan combo, of Vundo. Due to it being a rouge virus, and well WinAntiVirus/Vundo is a combo.

Also, thats for if you're getting popups as well, but it's always great to doublecheck.

On another note, I do suggest HiJackThis, with this program, it'll scan your current processes/some entries and what not. In terms of doing this you should look for anything that doesn't look very friendly, or something that looks normal to you.

No, seriously, there is not. :) This is what I do for a living. You can follow the directions, but trust me - they don't work. ;)

It's what I do too, plus more, but we're not going to get into that.

It can be done, but it's not easy, and apparently, if it worked on those directions, as the user has said it was gone, then it must work. I myself, have not encountered this particular issue. I'm pretty sure, though, that those guys at spybot, who made the S&D software know what can be removed, and what can't. If they say it can be removed, and provided a step-by-step basis on how to remove it, then it can be removed, especially, if the user with the problem has fixed it by their directions. I'm sure they've been doing it longer than you or I.

Edit: That, and looking around google as well, there have been several other users who have had this issue, and clarified that their PC has returned to normal operating conditions upon removal.

That's the key - normal operating conditions. You actually cannot fully remove the files without reformatting. You can only make the virus dormant. Unless you've actually had to work on this, you wouldn't know, now would you? ;)

Aye, I do believe so.

I do apologize then, TSO.

Kinda harsh calling me a loser though. I'm pretty fair, and will sit back when I know I'm finally wrong, and to the other person. Rep doesn't/shouldn't really be given because someone was wrong. I don't mind being wrong, but it's good to get everything out.

Thanks.

Try these 2;

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

&

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/

Depending on your machine they can take ages and manage to get most common ones, the ones they don't kill they usually tell you file/registry info to manually delete them.
Along with those use a process killer at the same time deleting identified files as they appear as some mutate almost immediately on detection.
Don't forget to look them up and look for 'trigger' files/processes which will recreate them as soon as you delete them.

Good luck, you'll need it :)

you really are best off just formatting and getting a clean install. it is the only way to ensure stability in your system.

ive got mcafee anti virus!!!!

methodcomptech, how do i format my pc. . . ive never done this before, so plz help out.

You do not need to format your pc. You need to defrag it, run ccleaner & use it to clean your registry and temp files , get a free anti-virus, get a free firewall, get a free anti-spyware application, get more ram, free up your desktop, run firefox or opera instead of IE & run windows updates to ensure stability of your system.

http://ccleaner Free Registry Cleaner

http://free.grisoft.com Free Anti-Virus

http://superantispyware.com Free Anti-Spyware Application

http://mozilla.com Alternative Browser(Run this instead of IE)

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en Free Firewall(Needed only for DSL and Cable customers without a hardware firewall)

http://opera.com Another Great App.
