Free Hosting?

No, whats the point. You intend to make monty, so just pay the $2 per manth for a real host.

Free hosts are too unreliable and have a history of dieing without warning or any chance to get your data back.

Put simply, its not worth the risk.

However theres alot of paid hosts out there who are just as bad, so i dunno really, best thing is research research research!!

I never seen any webmaster brave enough to place their real sites permanently at freeweb hosting. It would be funny to do that.

Yeah, free hosts are for fly-by-night websites, since many free hosts are, in fact, fly-by-night hosts. LOL

To be practical when you have a business, part of your business plan and budget should be a reliable web hosting.

But you must do you research about the web hosting very well because not all paid hosting are reliable, trust me there are still a handful of free hosting out there that are way better than some paid hosting :) and some small business trusts some free hosting than some paid hosting.

There is nothing wrong with starting with a free host, but the space and bandwidth limits will probably constrict you. Not to mention that most free hosts have ads on user pages - ads are fine for a personal site, but they make a business site look unprofessional.

As a webhosting owner I to say "Don't go for free hosting" for business hosting.

1. You don't get 100%(99.9%) uptime.
2. Server load will high
3. Low response speed(As they host more than 500 website in a 100Mbps outport..Think what happen all sites get high traffic)
4. and more.

that's putting it mildly.

sometimes you'll get host on "unlimited" 10mb ports (actually 3.3tb) with 500 ports. expect some very very slow times.

Free hosts often operate on razor thin margins which means corners get cut - this isn't the case with paid.

It boils down to free hosts being more fragile than paid hosts.

You guys sounds like you've had the most disastrous first free hosting, its like when all the bad things about free hosting was showered on earth, both of you captured it all :D

Look at it this way mate, your website depicts your business as does the quality of the website.

People are judgmental, especially when they venture into a new place they have never seen or known (Ergo first impressions). By doing this, you are putting your business and future partners (indirectly) in the hands of someone you don't know.

My advice to you is to do your research, and hey don't risk it. Better to know that your hosting is safe in the hands of a datacentre where you can ----- all you want if something goes wrong than in the hands of a teenage kid (Hey nothing wrong with that but lets face it, experience is the key).

I have experience running free and paid hosting and the issues they both come with.

GO PAID!

You get your own domain, better uptime/reliability/speed/support guarantees since the money you pay GOES to your service directly. You want to brand your business, not your free hosts so the money you pay for the account/domain can help with that.

Google for "web hosting" and find some of the hosts that are mentioned. Make a list based on cost, and then search for reviews on them. If you find a good cost/review ration - go with them.

Some offer discounts for prepaid periods but if money in the short term is an issue, you might want to stick with a monthly plan until you are certain your company is viable.

FreeHosts for Business

Why would you?

I think there's a use here for prototypes & demos.

Before businesses want to get tangled in a long term contract, someone could whip up a demo on a free host and let it kick around the meeting circuit.

Very true - but at the very least lock in your domain name, even if done seperately.

I don't know how many times in the past I checked out available domain names, found that most of what I wanted was already taken, and after finding one and deciding to register it later - it was taken by the time I went back to get it! (Network Solutions was caught Domain name front running and the provider I was originally using sold their data to squatters - they are no longer our provider).

If your going the free host route do not use a free host that places ads on your sites ads on pro looking site will drive vistors away

Maybe its OK. It depends on the site though. If all you want to do is have a simple website that basically displays what your brick and mortar business does, than thats fine. However, if you ever want to make it a serious business site that makes money online, than go with a paid host

Is it good to use a free hosting for a business site?

No free but post 2 host, because as long as there is some kind of payment (you know people who post sometimes click ads so the host earns) it is ok I think. Sure there are many unreliable post to host webhosting providers as well, but I am proud to say that I found(ed) one that is not. We have uptime statistics like a paid host and we are still available for everybody who agrees to post in our community forums.

while i would not say free web host is very bad, disaster, slow, poor uptime and stuff like the other members as I myself did not suffered that. however, in a business point of view, it still better to use a paid web host as it guarantee u with a less pack server, better communication and better support. it give u a better peace of mind. Of course, i myself experience a few paid hosting which is horrible worst than most free web host, so do your research well and you should be fine.
