how do you deal with this? Warez/Cracks/Illegal

Hi,
This thing probably isn't new here for us free web hosting providers but I decided to become even more strict about it.

Last few days I've hosted quite a lot of people graciously and this is what my scanner found.

  • Illegal vBulletin Forum and others
  • Phishing websites
  • PHP Scanner scripts
  • TOO MUCH WAREZ!

Since it really is against the TOS I have setup, I decided to terminate such accounts without notification.

What are you guys doing about it?

Immediate Account Suspension for a weeks (first violation). 2 weeks (2nd suspension), 1 month (third violation).

I pretty much do the same thing as Secret there, but after the second violation, or even the first. They'd know that when they registered, or signed up with said Hosting Company, that they were bound by Terms of Service like a contract.

Personally, I think it's grounds for immediate termination.

When we find a site that is against our TOS, we take it down. With so many accounts now, it's pretty hard to manually monitor everything, so we don't (and, really, can't). We have an automated phishing filter, and rely on abuse reports for most other TOS breaches.

We immediately terminate. Zero tolerance.

And its pretty easy to find illegal software - just do a search on the box for *mafia* for mafia scripts.

Good, I am glad I am not the only one being strict (i get this all the time) pirate2.

You might not want to scan and delete right away. Because the user might be running a modded vbulletin (usually nulled/cracked as well). But still have license for his domain. So ask vbulletin in case they have license and still runs nulled copy.

Its simple if they violate your TOS you need to enforce it. Its not worth the few extra dollars for that hosting account then to have the company come after you.

Additionally, if you allow it - more will come. Most of these warez sites run in groups. If they know you don't care or if they can exploit you in any way - they will do it. Just how it works. Don't make yourself vulnerable to have the noose around your neck.

Depending on the violation. But if one or all of the above occurred, I would terminate immediately without notification. They are obligated to fully read, understand and agree to the TOS upon registration so it is their own problem if they don't.

I would suspend it and wait to see if he contacts me asking what's going on, give him three days to reply. If he doesn't reply terminate it.

When our host (friends and I are busy with it) would be online, immediate deletion and ip ban on the servers for a month...

If we see any illegal stuff on our servers, we delete it. If it happens again, we terminate the account. Screen your orders and you'll see this happen a lot less.

Haven't had to deal with this much, but I would suspend, give one warning, then terminate if it wasn't removed in 48 hours
