I tried to offer free domain name registration but no one wanted it. I wonder what happend ? (for some fresh articles in return)

Doesnt people want a domain name any more ? :eek2: even if its free ?

How is the real situation of the domain registration market now, any ideas ?
:tired2:

who will easily trust it?
the agent can scam anytime as they want
-if you get name from users you can choose to buy it and sell it to them.
-even you gave them free you have your right to take away anytime because the buyer is you not them. You're not domain provider if you're domain provider they can trust you, nobody trust agent Agent sign-up and Domain Provider is totally different.
-and if you really give it free that's mean you have respondsible to spend domain cost each time and you have to give your rights for users that apply the domain name from you to have rights to sell their domain name also. If you can't give them manage that selling domain no way they will trust you.

if you won't listen me you can see the others reply from me.

What labyrinth said is true..unless you give them full control of the domain.

I had a contest running for a free .com but very few people sign up and none of them participated. so I kept extending the dead line however, i ultimately canceled it due to lack of participation.

It's strange as I would of jumped right in for a free domain. As that saves you from spending $9.99 per year for one.

I only pay $6.95 for domains. :p
Anyways, it might not be a good idea to give them full control. If you do, they'll just take the domain and you'll never see them again. :D

Let me tell you a short story! I once bought a domain name for this guy, I had been talking to him for around 2 months, I gave him the domain, on condition that he'd leave me a image link back, however after a week he got rid of the 'image link back' and I contacted him to get it backup, however he didn't respond and I stupidly gave him domain control. :( - Lesson learned!

Thus, why I keep control of the domains. Hell, the I'll even switch their DNS to another host if they ask, but until they pay for the domain, its still mine. :)

Free Domain Name offers appear from time to time

I used one many years ago, but after two years the Terms and Conditions changed, just when renewal was due
A transfer and/or account update fee suddenly applied, at £45.00

Ever since then I buy my own outright

When customers place an order for one, I don't order the Domain Name until the payment is received
Providing a customer has paid for their Domain Name then they should have full control of it
If a customer has not paid when renewal is due I have a holding page for their website, and that usually wakes them up a bit!

I am aware of one such free supplier at the moment, but they too have very high transfer / update charges

I'd take an educated guess and say that people would look upon it as some type of scam.

They're also very very cheap and easy to buy.

The market is pretty hot for domain registrations just now but probably if nobody wants free domains they may be wondering if theres a catch, if it's to good to be true it probably is, as they say. People also preffer using a well known registrar, like namecheap, godaddy etc and would probably shy away from unknown ones.

I own over 30 domains and can tell you that just because it's cheap or free doesn't mean it's any good, people would rather spend the extra few bucks for the added security a well known registrar gives.
