HTML5 contains many new features compared with HTML4, although it's not fully supported by any web browser. A good way to support HTML5 on your web site, without worrying that your code will be incompatible on some browsers is to use a special JavaScript library named Modernizr.

As per my analysis and research HTML 5 includes new tags and functions which were not in simple HTML. In HTML, the Doctype is very long while in HTML5 the Doctype remains in a standard mode and not too long. Audio and video tags for multimedia functionality is not a part of HTML while HTML5 contains audio and video as integral part of it. HTML5 works with modern browsers and HTML works on all old as well as modern browsers.

There are some major difference between HTML and HTML5. HTML stands for Hypertext markup language and HTML5 is a updated version of HTML that allows some additional tags such as audio video tag.

One of the most important difference is that with html5, you don't have to setup a plugin to watch a video or listen to a song.

HTML 5 has come up with some features that was not available in the other versions.HTML5 is a core technology markup language of the Internet used for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web. HTML5 is the newest specification for HTML, and many browsers are going to start supporting it in the future.

HTML text and images on a page. Later revisions included some attempts at providing semantic data which allows basically for automated categorization and correlation of HTML documents.

HTML5 actually strives to be something very different. It aims to be more of an application development platform, which includes not only laying out text and images, but also playing video and audio, interactive 2d and 3d graphics, storing data in the application, dealing with online and offline access to data, and real-time networking protocols for exchanging data as it happens.
