seriously... the dot com bubble ended a while ago now, unless you're selling something unique that people want and can't get elsewhere there's no money in a site and you'll just be fighting for a little niche. Go find a parttime job, you'll get more money from that then you'll ever get from a personal site.

If you have a hobby you might set up a site about that hobby. Some suppliers for that hobby will give you money or product to put their ads on your site depending on how many people link to them through your site.
That is probably the quickest way to defray the cost of a web site.
If you want to sell goods or services yourself, you are competing with a ton of established companies.
Depending on where you live (i.e. how big of a city do you live in), you might set up a site to schedule your time as an unskilled laborer.

That's because there is no easy way to make money, at least not legally.
You have to spend money before you can make money, and if you want to succeed you need to know exactly what you are doing, plan how you are going to do it, and then work hard to get there.
success isn't guaranteed; its just a nice thing that happens sometimes if you work hard and are lucky.
there are lots of illegal or "legal grey area" ways of making money. ie selling certain "nutritional supplements" or stealing porn and making a site out out it. But there are already so many of these types of sites out there that you would have to have something pretty special to do well.
Unless you're really driven you'll get tired and quit. (I hate to say it)
I've had all sorts of attempts at making money. However, it took sites a couple years to start getting traffic (+100 visits a day), and by the time I realized I was making money, my "sites" (they had content, but all pages had been converted into Allclicks.com Enter links.), the free hosts shut them down, or the free hosts got shut down.
But, I realized, that it takes a lot of work to make money. Just think of all the people trying to do the same thing. I myself have a few things in the works, buy as Gayo said, I get bored, then leave them for a while, and pick them up 6 months later, and start over.
If there was a way to easily make money, that means there are people doing it. By the time you hop on a trend, you are going downhill.
What you have to do is start your own trend. Make something new on the net. Something interesting, something people will want to go to. Don't depend on search engine traffic. You want people sending emails to all their contacts about your site.
But, I realized, that it takes a lot of work to make money. Just think of all the people trying to do the same thing. I myself have a few things in the works, buy as Gayo said, I get bored, then leave them for a while, and pick them up 6 months later, and start over.

you probally won't make alot of money online,
but here's an idea u to get u started:
find a hobby u really enjoy and turn it into
a website.
lets say your real good in drawing,
well then showcase it on your site,
there may be some ppl that'll what a particular picture,
and they may even pay u if u draw it for em'.

you can make money w/ just about
anything u do,but do let money be thing
that drives you.
b'cuz if thats all u care about it'll
show through your work and won't establish
any visitors or friends.
