.it domains good idea?

I am looking to buy a .it domain for a large website i am hopeing to start.

I am not in italy and have nothing to do with any thing italian but i like the whole

thisdomaindoes.it dontclick.it

niche it has to it...

But i was wondering if its a good idea for a large website? i am thinking of this because of word of mouth if you told someone for example ''thisdomaindoes.it'' they might type in www.thisdomaindoesit.com if they arent websmart

oh the reason i dont buy the mydomainnameit.com and mydomainname.it is because the .com isnt avalible...

.it? Thats a new one to me! I've never heard of a .it domain, sounds fun!

I'd say, go for it, see if they're good :)

If it's a big site, then you might consider getting the name for it trademarked and getting the .com domain for it (u can get domains pretty easily when you have proper rights to the name) and having the .com redirect to the .it

How would i go about getting the domain?

.it Domain Names are for Italy
This is easy enough if you speak (type) Italian or have an address in Italy
If you don't then it is slightly more complicated
Contact your Domain Name provider and ask for a generic quote on a .it Domain Name
Due to the language barrier the cheapest I could find was £60 / USD$120 per year

You'll always want the .com anyways, like others have said above.

.com is if you're going to get your business going.

Although I highly do suggest .it and other premium domains for specialty sites like you said. It does make the site more interesting.

Like del.icio.us?:)

del.icio.us -- thats funny

thats expensive for a .it domain -- if you really want to pay that much, go for it. Otherwise I would suggest going with a .com, .net, .org, etc -- one of the cheaper ones.
