Making graphics

I want to learn how to make my own banners and graphics. What's the best (relatively cheap) program to use and is there a good website that will teach me how to make graphics with that program?

I think you'll find that many people use a combination of programs (not just one), but a good one I'd start with is Paint Shop Pro, and of course PhotoShop.

Paint Shop Pro

Use Paint Shop Pro 6, extremely flexible and powerful and my favourite graphics editor + it also has animation shop pro a fine gif animation program. PSP is easy to use and very powerful if u add a couple of plugins to it. Ulead makes some great plugins for Photoshop/PSP and some other great cutting edge softwares like GIF Animation, Smart Saver PRo, Cool 3D.

And the good thing about Paint Shop Pro is you get a free 30 day trial, to see if you like it! How good is that! I think that it would be great if even more companies did this... I know lots already do, but it's still a brilliant feature! Bring on the Shareware!

Here's to a fully functional 30-day trial of Photoshop 6!

This is ma man! lol.. i totally agree Supermoo :) i found it on WinMAG shareware cd way back in 1996..lolz

Yea! I found it back on a PC Format coverdisc in 1995. Way back then the 'ol evaluation idea didn't really work... I've still got Paint Shop Pro 3 or 4 on one of my old machines 1,500 days past the agreed evaluation. Not that I would of course use it after that argreed date :).

Yah, Paint Shop Pro is *the* program if you're starting out. It offers alot of gizmo's for a relatively low price (compared to some other packages).

photoshop rules!

I think that Photoshop is the best way to fully utilize the power of your pc when you're gonna edit an image! If you know how to use it, It's amazing! Plus, there's plugins to better make your images to make it more realistic or add different effects to it...something that (well...i think) you can't do in paint shop pro. If you want, just get the illegal version of it - full version of coarse - in http://www.warez.com ...hehe....not that I ever visited that site... ;P

RE: to timchak

Way to go. Show people how to get illegal copies of a program so Adobe looses money, and then they don't have the resources to put out another killer program. You make me sick .

Adobe dosen't loose money if they were never going to buy it in the first place.

Why am I not liking this Alex any more than the last?

PhotoShop 6 is by far the best I've used. I've got loads of plugins for it, which makes it easy to create awesome effects. It costs a $#!+ load though, so I doubt it's what you had in mind. I have PSP too, but I haven't used it much. It has some okay features though.
