This morning, I installed one of those Windows Update things...after i installed it, it told me to reboot which I did.

After the reboot, Windows says some files are corrupted and missing. Thinking formatting will fix the problem, I formatted. After I formatted, to my surprise, Windows setup couldn't detect my HD. Turns out my HD is screwed and I replaced it.......

anyways did the update do this or my formatting/

probably your formating did it becuz updating the computer doesn't break the computer atleast I don't think so.

but how did formatt screw it up? i formatted alot of times before this and it never screwed up like this time.........

Is linux hard to use?

Perhaps your hard drive isn't/wasn't in the best of health.

I remember having a harddrive.. where you would install Windows or Linux (or whatever) - do a few reboots and files would start disappearing.. then the FAT etc would become corrupt... (was a IBM 400mb drive or something..)

i think that your hard drive was just old and got corrupted, due to formating, nothing happens, it just re-screws same hard drive :D

Security, file permissions, better memory/cpu management, etc etc.

The list can go on if you like.
Well but I would prefer MS Windows over Linux as it is so damn hard to use. You know, its not about 'I am 1337 I know how to use Linux but you are not 1337 so you dont'. Setting up an internet connection takes a pain for me, I don't know about you, everything is command line, and I would rather remember something more useful than Linux commands.

Linux does have a GUI so you can learn how to set it up visually

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but weren't computers designed to make life easier? Linux just appears to make it harder for some people, so I don't see how it's better. Sure it more stable. Sure it has better memory management. Provided you don't f*ck around with windows it never seems to crash on me.

I don't want to turn this into an M$ vs. Linux thread. So I'll stop now.

Sometimes simplicity isn't easier.

Wow, aren't you touchy. Must be the young age, apparently you do not know how to have a conversation.

Trenz, you may have worked with Linux, but it seems like from your posts it was only at the command line. I find Linux pretty dang hard to use at the command line too, and avoid it most of the time, prefering to use XWindows and KDE to play around with eye-candy and better organized utilities. I wouldn't attempt to set up an internet connection from the command line to please a dying grandmother. You're right, from the command line, unless you really know what you're doing, it's really hard.

But I couldn't figure out how to connect to the internet without using command line and running rpppoe. it took me many days to figure that out. and installing stuff, its so much of a hassle.

gunzip this and that.

simplicity may not be easier, but may be FASTER.

Currently, im very happy with windows, ive got to used to it ;) plus in my opinion the GUI is much much better (i really dont like linux GUI) and im not sure why but i think MS has improved there secuirty drasticly from ME and there operating system over all...

Thats just my opinions tho :p
