My review of 1and1 Internet

When's 1999?
NLC
Hi guys. Its been since December 2007 since I joined 1and1.co.uk for a hosting account, and I have found them absolutely perfect.

When I started with them, I paid for the account per month, and got 2 domains (1 primary/paid for, and 1 free from the package). I then, in March, upgraded to the Business Linux plan, and got an extra 2 domains free! The control panel they use is a little confusing at first, but after some time studying it, and getting used to it, its extremely easy, and I'd use it over cPanel/DirectAdmin/Plesk anyday, its one of the easiest control panel's around.

The site I have with them (primary domain) is http://www.adzp.co.uk/. The speed of the site is perfectly fine for me :)

Sorry if the review's a little small, but that's all I can think of.

Adz :)

I hope they arent the same company as 1and1.com.

Ive had nothing but trouble with them in respect to domain names.

Registrations often take days, despite the fact most of my domains are there, and do any DNS changes or adding "subdomains".

When i first signed up, i was having trouble locating the DNS settings. After numerous email exchanges with the support department, they finally told me i needed a dedicated server in order to point my domain to my reseller... ummm WHAT?? Dumbasses indeed!

English is clearly not their first language, as they never seem to understand what your asking. If you are desperate enough to submit a ticket, it will be handled by 3 different people all with a completely different reply, none of wich is any help anyway.

My Advice. Stay away from 1and1.com

Hopefully www.1and1.co.uk is an unrelated company :p

They're owned by the same company, as you can see by their sites, exactly the same... But I do recommend 1and1 to anyone who needs good support. Their phone & email support is top quality!

Which is actuley, if I may add, extremely reliable and of an extremely high quality ;)

1and1 - Are great. Until you actually get a busy site going... They limit MySQL connections, HTTP connections, and any other connections/limits they can think of.

Hell! They even limit the size each mySQL database can be :S And they limit it so low, that even a forum thats not that busy can't last for 3 months until the problems start, and they have to move hosts.

They are good, if you just want to host a few pages that don't use mySQL or wont get many visitors, other than that - I would never go back to 1and1.co.uk or .com

I have to say Richard is right. But I only run a normal XHTML/CSS site on there, oh and a WordPress Blog + a Zenphoto Gallery...

As soon as my contract run's out I'm moving, knowingly to a dedi, easier.

LOL, this is the first good review on 1and1 ever! :classic2:
Me too, I was hosted with 1and1.com years ago, however I always had a problem with something.

Lately I tried again and registered a domain, and their support was just awful. It was a pain just to get basic support. Although that was my personal opinion, however I just have not had a good experience with then yet.

What made you register a domain there? Was it a cheap promotion?
It was the Free ID Protection they offered. I can't exactly remember but I think it was promotion they were offering at the time I bought it. Plus I wanted to give it a second chance.

Hmm, it is odd that the same types of issues remain even after several year gaps in reviews. Is this negative feedback not hurting their client base to enough of a degree that they actually fix the issues being brought up?

Well regardless of the other comments on this host, thanks for the review OP, I hope the remainder of your stay with them continues to be as pleasant as it has been thus far.

I'll bet all those limitations are there to compensate for overselling (as they supposedly offer 10 gb disk space and 300 gb monthly data transfer for only $4/month). Yet another downside of those overselling hosts.
