new host needed - searching impossible

Hello All.

I have been hosting my personal/journal domain with the same company for the past year or so. I have been happy with the service, but now I have "grown out of" their hosting plan. I have tried to do a search, but nothing comparable seems to come up.

Basically, I need a host which will allow for 2 domain pointers. Other than that, I'd like these features:

2 domain pointers
50 MB Disk Space
6 Gigabytes of Transfer
POP 3 email (no more than five or ten)
CGI, PHP
99% uptime

I'd prefer to pay around 60$ US/year, but will go up to $100/year.

If anyone knows of a package like this, please let me know. I have been unsucessful in my searching, and my current hosting ends in a month or so.

I am not entirely sure that I need 6 gigs of transfer, but that is what my current host offers (for one domain pointer).

6 Gigs for a personal journal? You life must be really exciting if so many people like to read it !! :)

:) I'm not really sure how much bandwidth I need. I only know that I have 6 gigs now, and I haven't had problems with it. And I'm afraid that when I start up my second domain, I'll have more traffic than before.


I know that I have an average of 100 pageviews a day, and then I don't know how that translates into bandwidth.
 
With only 100 page views a day I'd be surprised if you even use 500 MB of transfer each month. It's probably only around 100-200 MB depending on the size of the page.
 
My current host doesn't seem to be very flexible with their hosting plans. I did ask for a more custom plan-- when I originally signed up with them, and they couldn't help me.

Oh well.
 
Look at www.nuke.to , I think you could go for the $45 a year plan.

Are you planning to be like that one photojournalist who gets like 50,000 views to his site everyday?

Just to give you an idea, my site is using about 6 GIG's of transfer a month, and I'm running a VBulletin board and php chatroom with steady daily traffic.

I'm using F5Hosting Platinum package that gives me 15Gigs to work with, and it's around $20 a month. It's more than *I* actually need, and way more than you would need, but you might look at some of their other packages. The prices are good and the support is exceptional.

That will depend on how many graphics and pics you have on your site. Pages of text vs. pages of large pictures and graphics will make a big difference in the bandwidth you actually use.

I'd almost start by asking your current host exactly how much you ARE using monthly, they should be able to tell you that, and go from there.

Simple translation of Bandwidth.

Okay lets say your average page is 50k(I'm just guessing). The total bandwidth for a month at 100 views per day would be:

100*50,000 bytes * 30 days=1.5GB/month

So at 100 views/day, for you to go over 6GB you'd have to get about 400/day.

What's wrong with you?

That would be 150 megabytes not 1.5 gigabytes; If you got 1000 visitors a day, then it would be 1.5 gigs of transfer, and 4000 visitors a day would be 6 gigs of transfer.
 
To be exact it's 146 megs (50kb x 1024 = 51200 x 100 hits = 5120000 x 30days = 153600000 (divide) 1024 = 150000 (divide) 1024 = 146.484375 megs) :D
