Review my layout for a local fabricator/artist

Hey everyone, this guy is giving me several hundred $$$ worth of work done for me in trade of a website. So I have to do something pretty cool.

First off, I am not that into 'web design' itself, although I am pretty proficient with HTML and style sheets, I am a programmer by nature. I typically like simplistic designs and layouts but this one called for something a little cooler

a few notes before your review

the background image behind the page content (it's a guy welding) will probably change into a picture of his truck or something, but still be transparent. For now that image is a little bit large, and I need to compress it a little more

There will also be a bunch of buttons for companies he is a distributor for (King Shocks etc) I will make them match the design though as far as colors go and put them under the navigation

I am pretty sure it works in most browsers but I haven't tested with Opera, Safari or early versions of nutscrape, if anyone could test it out for me with those browsers I would appreciate it

EDIT: one other thing, look at the source, although it is an image based design there is not a single <img> tag in it. Making it nice for browsing to it on your cell phone (I do this a lot) or if you have a really crappy computer with no support for style sheets, it still shows you all content

Load speed = Very fast
Background = appealing
Layout = bit odd but quite good
Navigation = excelent
Logo = seems to be a bit dull compared to the rest of the stuff

comments:
i rather like the background you have behind the text and the transparencies of the boxes are also good. just that you need to work on the logo a bit. Also i think that it would be better if the main page blended a bit with the background. cos right now the white on the left makes it look like 2 sepurate sheets of paper. which kinda ruins your 3Dish design

Total rating: Very good

thanks, I was debating what I should do with the background and I came up with some ideas recently, I formatted my computer yesterday and I am still catching up on installing programs. I will add something for the background soon.

As far as the logo, that is the companies official logo, so I don't know if I can do much with it, and it also keeps things familiar for the people who see stickers for the company on trucks, dune buggies and quads etc.
