Saidcom Datacenter Down?

Status
Not open for further replies.
A reseller was abusing the AUP and saidcom thought they took care of the problem but it wasn't completely stopped so level 3 unplugged them.

Unfortunate but true, now apparently they could be down for another 60 days...

yeah, but surely saidcom shouldnt be relying on just 1 provider, as they should have planned against this happening.

saidcom only have 2 providers (i believe) i would guess that level 3 have control over the second provider too.

yeah, they merged, if i ran a datacenter, i would start hearing alarm bells at that stage

you've got to wonder what they were thinking...
I mean, as stated before, they're going bust after this incident.
sucks to be them.

I honestly can't believe that Level 3 cut them off cold turkey for a simple reseller AUP issue. They had to have disregarded warnings, or really violated Level 3's AUP to get completely shut off, and for such a long period of time.

Perhaps they didn't pay their bandwidth bill?

:confused4

Not what anyone want's to hear, but the latest is in on the Saicom situation:

Saidcom has notified us that it will be at least 60 days before they are back online. They also said that they are not willing to take individual files off all the servers and upload them to a remote server we provided. This is what we asked once they announced the new 60 day time frame. It does not appear that they will make any backups available. We will continue to insist that they make these backups available, but it does not appear Saidcom is willing to cooperate. Unless they change their minds, this is most likely our last update on the Saidcom situation.

Thats a huge bummer for everyone who had a server with them. All of that data.......:cry2:

Thats unreal, how can it take them 60 days!!! I feel for you man. :(

As for them providing backups, i would suggest that it might be a legal requirement, as that would be witholding information, of which they are not the rightful owners, against the will of the rightful owners.

Plus it is probably applicable as witholding data not belonging to them, for an extensive and damaging, business period.

Just my opinion, you may choose to follow it up or not. Either way, i wish you the best of luck, and hope you guys manage to find a suitable alternative.

By the time they were to file any law suit it would be well over 60 days before anything even starts moving along I would think.

No, however, it is a possibility, and perhaps suggesting it to the saidcom managing staff would motivate them somewhat, the power of subtle suggestion, is a wonderful thing, plus i would imagine that while not the biggest, galaxy was a fairly large customer in the terms of the number of servers they utilise ? though maybe thats part of the problem, i personally fail to see how saidcom will ever recover from this, you just dont go with 80+ days downtime and then get back up on your feet. Your reputation would be marred for starters.

I agree, I highly doubt SC will be able to recover from all of this.

Well if I were them I wouldn't waste my time.. Just close up shop! They won't get any customers after this mess!!

Good luck to all!

Thanks,
Adam

They don't just offer dedicated servers, they are also an ISP provider which from what I understand is somewhat operational right now.

That is correct, but the ISP side is barely operational. Service was restored to most their internet customers last week, but at speeds so slow there is not much point.

have you tried suggesting a legal side to this man, i genuinely believe that might yield some results, especially if they realise you arent going away.

I agree, I wouldn't stand for this. This is really getting ridiculous. Thank god I didn't have any data left on the server. If I had data on there I needed, I would call - and file a lawsuit if need be if it were to yield me compensation for more than the costs for calling my lawyer =P.

I don't believe they are telling us everything. We stopped using them and will never use them again. False promises all the time, unorganized staff, unavailable support when you need it. There is no way Level 3 would just "unplug" a data center like that because they would be liable for all of the clients which could end up in a class action lawsuit against them...... they aren't stupid.

That is exactly what happened.. it isnt the first or last time level 3 has done this and will do it. There's not much recourse when such a thing happens. Saidcom is getting new multiple providers for their service and will start up again mid april at the latest. If you think a lawsuit will make a difference(with level 3).. go and try. Were saidcom to file lawsuit ( which they would be in the right) it would take years and 500k- 1 million a year to pursue. That would be the end of the business. the same sort of thing has been done by bell-atlantic (when they were called that) in the late '90's and smaller companies found out how helpless they really are in a lawsuit against a big company. Saidcom did everything they could possibly do to jump through the hoops level 3 set for them. The fact is that level 3 did not want to honor the contract they inherited when they bought telcove and thus , became saidcom's new provider. The tos violations excuse was a lie to get out of it. Level 3 has done similar things to Cogent and other mid size companies (google it). Saidcom has even been contacted by victim companies (victims of level 3's dirty monopoly tricks) to help. They hate level 3 that much! If you still don't believe that this was a dirty stunt by level 3... they approached the school district saidcom serviced to try to talk them into getting more expensive service directly from level 3 after pulling saidcom's plug. Saidcom even offered to drop all its hosting to assuage level 3 rediculous demands so they could keep the school district online. The schools need the internet as an essential teaching tool these days... and level 3 didn't care. So you tell me whats up... saidcom offers to loose over half its revenue to keep a school district online and level 3 says no. a few days later they are trying to contract with the district. Thank god that the administrators at the school district know whats going on and refused the offer and stuck it out with Saidcom. This is not an isolated incident with level 3. research it! I feel very bad for the dedicated server customers and wished there was a quicker resolution to the situation. I am sure Saidcom would be glad to have them back as customers and offer them some special offers in compensation.
