How do you know? I made an educated guess based on the informmation (or lack thereof) given.

I know because I used to get the same stuff.
But I agree it might be a messeger pop, but I never saw those, only the ones I used to get.

It's this stupid pop up that comes up once in awhile that says test the permance of your pc. Or your computer is not maximized. It's so annoying!

Btw....How do you run regkey?

Is it an IE window that pops up? Does it happen while browsing the web? Or does it look like a regular windows window (not internet)?

It sounds like one of the default popups from an ad company. I get them a lot from sites with advertising.

The pop up is definitely not from any specific website. It just appears randomly, sometimes even when I'm not surfing the web. Yea, it's an IE window. I can close it by hitting the "x" button.

C:\Windows\Start Menu\Startup <- delete all

start->run->RegEdit
Browse to: hkey_local_machine\softwares\microsoft\windows\currentversion\
and delete everything in the run* keys (run* = run, runex, run once, etc)

Then browse to: hkey_current_user\softwares\microsoft\windows\currentversion\
and delete everything in the run* keys

click on "run" in te tree and delete everything that apars on the right side.

Reboot pc and do nothing for a while to test if the baner is gone or no.

It's worth giving a try :)

I wouldn't do that...most people have lots of programs that run at startup, ones that they actually want to run.

Funny thing, the other day I got the same popup...

I was browsing with IE, and thought I just closed a window. When I go back to the site I thought I was it, nothing pops up.

Are you SURE that it pops up when you don't have any IE windows open, or haven't just stopped using IE, and closed a window?
