It's a really good domain name, and I hate to let is just gather dust by not using it, so I thought I would ask here for some opinions on what to do with it.

my original thought was to set up a forum where people couple post problems and then other people could help, kind of like a secondary support desk for all hosts. of course, advertising hosts would be against the rules, no sig links etc.

What do you suggest?

I do like the idea of the topsite, but I would also like a review section included. Do any of you know of an inexpensive script that might meet these requirements?

I put a top list on it but, now, how do I get the different developers to submit their support desks?Should I email them and ask them to submit? It would be free advertising but, I'm affraid it might be seen as spam.

Another idea I have for it is, a forum where people can go and post problems on many different topics, everything from CPanel support to depression and addiction. The one big draw back there is that it is soo hard to get a forum going good!

Do it like they do for the web hosts have people vote and have it change from time to time as people vote on it. And then you can just list like the top ten that are out there. Start a thread and ask people what they use the most and pick the most popular 10.
 
In any way if you want your web site to be unique you need to invite something new and interesting.
Domein name itself will never do that work for you
 
Yeah just email them, and inform them that they will gain a potentially larger amount of traffic if they submit for free.

Then you can't do anything. If you mentioned they would be able to potentially gain more traffic to their site by submitting for FREE, and they decide not to take up that offer, it's their loss.

You can't lose much from doing something that cost nothing, right?

Wordpress has review plugins (both free and paid types available) - and might be the way to go...

So you can try to get in touch with the owners and ask them what do they have for that solution. Maybe that is custom made?
Sorry I'm not big expert in the blog software, but if I were you I would act in that way
