Terms Of Service Help

How does a freewebhost write its terms of service? Since most freewebhosts dont have the cash to pay for one is there a template or tuturial on making one? Is it illegal to copy someone elses? Help, im really stumped.

-Thanks.

You could copy from other hosts anyway but just as a matter of ethics
and etiquette, I'd just ask some hosts if you can use their TOS policy
adapted for your use on your service.

You will likely find that many will say "YES" for that sort of thing.

We have had several hosts approach us asking to use our TOS page
over the years and since they were nice enough to ask instead of
just stealing, we gave each of those permission to copy our TOS page

also look in the ads & offers forum.
There's some guy advertising every once an while selling a whole bunch of tos and other legal doc templates.

It's not illegal to copy a legal document.

The TOS is copyrighted by the company. You cannot copy it word-to-word. You cannot copy entire sections.

You can however take ideas on what you should have covered, and re-write the agreement in your own words

Ok ive emailed a hosting company about the TOS but if they reject me could i use yours amz?
Sure! We don't care about anyone copying our TOS policies!

(It's actually flattering that anyone would want to mimic our policies)

We would only care about such things if you were wanting to copy our
graphics or site layouts. In that case, we would probably tell you to
"go to hell" but as far as copying the text written on our TOS page,
we don't mind anyone doing that.

The only thing I ask though is that you make sure that you replace all
instances of our name in the TOS text. It's really a bit weird and somewhat
annoying to visit another host and have their TOS tell everyone to contact
"support@cybertoad.net" for help! LOL

I may take you up on that offer only as a base tho... see I lost my last TOS :S yours seems much more reliable than the one i made anyway can i use it too :) lol.

Don't just copy. Try to rephrase the terms and try to understand what they mean, if you do you will know what to do.

I allready made my own
I wasnt going to copy just use some words but i ended up making my own :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I know what you mean James you would need to reword it and understand it otherwise your inforcing something even you dont understand LOL and if the host dont understand it how are they going to explain it to the clients
"IM sorry I dont understand that part of our terms of service" :p

I always write my own.
Admittedly, I do get ideas from other providers but always write my own word for word.

That baby is gonna cut your hosting time g ;)
