Hey *nix lovers here are a few things I want you to try and do in any *nix, or any platform at all besides Windows...

1. Create a DTS (Data Transformation Service)
2. INSERT 500,000 records with over 60 columns in less than 5 minutes into a mySQL database
3. use a Bulk Insert in MySQL
4. Create a DataTable
5. Create a DataSet
6. Find good support
7. Use Exchange Server
8. Have something near as good as the Visual Studio IDE
9. Have developer support like MSDN

Anybody?

When you actually pay for your products and have a subscription to MSDN I don't think you could have better support. I can call them 24/7 ask them any question and they will almost ALWAYS have a solution. Email support and chat support is just as good. support doesn't exist in the *nix world

well, seeing as talking about microsoft and scripting languages and having pointless arguments over which is better is kinda gay, I'm going to divert this thread off on a new course.

look! A puppy!...

#1: What the fuh is that?

#2-3: MySQL can probably do that on *nix too

#4-5: See number one.

#6: I'm pretty sure Red Hat has some good Linux support.

#7: Well, considering that's a Microsoft product . . . . I don't even know what it does.

#8: They are called: Vi and Midnight Commander

#9: It's called OSDN

Exchange server is used by almost all major companies it is kind of like an email type thing, it is also usually integrated with the domain server.

What about network and user managment components like ADS (Active Directory Services)
You can not honestly say "OSDN" is half of what MSDN is
I said near as good as VS, and those don't come close
"MySQL can probably do that on *nix too" haha that is funny. Don't count on it...you should expect more like an hour to insert that many records
DataSets DataAdapters and DTS's are some of the most useful features, including DataTables except for a DTS they are all components of the .NET framework

since this argument is getting on my nerves, i will to try to divert it...
<coughs>linux is better (in my op)</coughs>
and now, for the diversion:
Look! A Diversion!

:)D )

Jeeze.....calm down....i was just joking (once again hence the smiley). maybe you should go somewhere else and cool off to :D

OK OK OK I have an argument. Have you ever actually tried to do that MySQL thing on *nix? And do you realize that a hardened and patched install of OpenBSD is virtually impossible to get into? Try that with Windows. *smug smiley* ;)

Have you ever tried to hack windows? I garuntee if *nix was half- as popular as windows you would hear about all the vulnerabilities in it as well. It is not that windows is vulnerable it is that it is targeted

OK. At my dads office, with the permission of the only two people working there at the time, I messed around with what I remembered on the subject of NetBIOS. Within 10 minutes I had all the printers renamed on the computers and dos windows set to exec in 5 minutes. I changed it all back, though, but it was just a demonstration at how insecure windows is. They were all win2000 boxes.

How is that hacking? That just means the network admin had rights given to peope you shouldn't trust. That is not hacking...do that from outside of the network and I will kind of call it hacking
