Should I try again, 100% fully self-funded with plenty of backup funds and all that good stuff?


OOOOOOR Should I save the headache and just say "Screw it."


Also, lets say I do open it, should I file the paperwork for a sole proprietorship immediately or wait until profit?

Maybe you could consider another option, to join an existing host as a partner and get right up there fast, rather then going solo.
 
Maybe you should go with "Screw It" because if your not 100% sure or 100% commited your customers loose out.

I Say ... Screw It.
 
You should have a plan and know exactly what you want to do before doing it. So, I say "Screw It"

If you have the cash to do it and are able to do it reliably. [not gonna shut down in a month] then why not?

Also if you can file the paperwork on it now then you will be better off

Personally, Partner with a company and start from there. Unless you want to dive in at the deep end.

If your willing to put 100% into it, Start again, Follow your heart :cool2:

Maybe do a bunch of budgeting and figure out how much it would cost for a year, and save up that amount so you can spend the whole year trying to figure out how to profit instead of trying to meet end to end with your monthly bills.
 
It's up to you really. If you do start another hosting business, I recommend you start filing the paperwork as soon as possible. You wouldn't want to cause problems once you do start with the paperwork. It's a lot easier to do it from the start.

That was my plan. Still dunno if I want to or not yet, though. I'm not sure what's holding me back, but I'm just not 100% on it yet. I loved doing hosting, and I took very good care of my customers... Not sure yet.

It would take a while to start anyway, since I would want a strict business plan before starting anything. I'd have to re-evaluate control panel software, billing software, and backup solutions before even considering it further.
 
If you have the time, money, and motivation to do it then why not? Hosting isn't a bad industry but just don't become one of those oversellers who offers "unlimited" disk space and bandwidth.

Why not? Because unlike some of the hosts on this and other forums, I have a full time job. That means any free time I get is spent carefully... I don't want to be answering support tickets on my day off.

However, there's a certain charm about hosting that I enjoy... Something special about answering the tickets and fixing bugs and helping people.

...I'll start saving.
