Nup, it's free for ever... I think it might not have all the bells and whistles of the pro version, but it is enough to protect your computer.

I use the pro version of AVG and install the free version on every machine I repair (10-15 a week). I wish I could get referral points!

I recommend AVG anti-virus, they have a free edition which is really good. It has low system resource usage, live scanning (like it will tell you if you have downloaded a zip file that contains a virus), email scanning... And it automatically checks for updates every day, which they release a new virus database every 2-3 days.
