What should a free host offer?

Hi there,

We at host24.com are planning a new free PHP hosting service to be launched early in 2002.

The initial offering will possibly include:
- 5 Mb of space
- PHP 4.0.6 (latest version)
- webalizer stats
- url to be either account.myhost24.com or mydomain.com
- one e-mail alias (account@myhost24.com or info@mydomain.com)
- upload only ftp account
- bandwidth of 300-600 Mb/month
- no banner displays will be enforced
- only sites using PHP will be allowed

The idea is to promote the usage of PHP by giving new developers a change to get going. A directory of PHP scripts and resources will be added to the site.

Do you guys (and girls) think this will fly? If not, what should we add or modify, keeping in mind that there is no such thing as a free lunch :)

thanks,

Johan

mySQL will be available, but changes are that we'll charge a minimal amount for that (either a once off setup charge, or a small monthly amount).

As far as other features go - we're open to suggestions ...

I think either banners or popups (let your users decide what they want), and maybe a bit more bandwith if possible.

15-25 Megs of Space is good,

Bandwith is your choice, and MySql should be there, or you could affiliate with www.freesql.org (which is not my site)

Great - I've looked at the freesql.org site. Something to consider ...
