my town Seattle, WA just had a 6.4 earth quake, it was ****ing scary as hell, people in salt lake city felt it also

yea I just saw that on the news a few minutes ago. At least no buildings tumbled over and killed thousands of people.

I dunno.... MSNBC was practically on top of the damn thing. It apparently shook their building enough to knock out, not their site, but the equipment they use to update it. So I guess they weren't the first to report it, this time. :)

Also, it interrupted a speech that Bill Gates was giving at a convention in Seattle.

What a day.

First: Earthquake 200 miles north of me (my dad said he felt it at work some 20 miles, to the west, away but I didn't feel it at all) Yeah.. maybe this was the big one everyone was concerned about. lol. maybe not. Did enough damage to shut down power , airports, and lots of other things in washington..Oh yeah.. 17,000 people were with out power. That temporarily solves the Californian crisis lol.

Second: Some guy robs a shop in my town. 4th robbery in 3 days. Great. Maybe the cops will fix this soon lol

Third: Some idiot brings a gun to my school and tries to sell it to someone...BUT, thanks to some observant students close to this maniac, the police come and confiscate the weapon and arrest the kid.

What a day. Too much stimuli -- I'm going to bed!

Yeah my relatives on vancouver island felt it. just shook the building and knocked some plants over.

i got the officail stats of it
47.15N 122.72W 6.8 or richter scale 52.4 kn deep

A strong earthquake occurred about 10 miles (20 km) northeast of Olympia, Washington at 11:54 AM MST today, Feb 28, 2001 (10:54 AM PST in Washington). A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 6.8 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE. The magnitude has been revised based on further processing of available data. The preliminary mechanism for this earthquake is tensional (normal) faulting in the subducting (downgoing) Juan de Fuca Plate, caused by bending of the plate. Damage and injuries have occurred in the Olympia-Seattle area. The earthquake was felt as far away as Salt Lake City. This earthquake is located in the same general area as a magnitude 7.1 earthquake on April 13, 1949. In terms of energy released, today's earthquake is about one-third as strong as the 1949 quake. The location for this earthquake was furnished by the Geophysics Program, University of Washington, Seattle.

it was 52.4Km under the surface so it was pretty deep

I know it probably scared a lot of people to death (well not literally), and I feel bad about that, but the footage of Bill Gates giving a speech and an earthquake hitting was kind of funny. All these people running away from Microsoft. heh, Apple or somebody could probably have a little fun and make a nice little commercial :)

We couldn't feel it, but our seismographs picked it up here in Virgina. Damn !
