For I had done what I could (as in visiting the site ) and it had not worked, so I posted that there's a problem. What else should I have done?

Use a proxy to see if you can get to the page
You have to remember that forums are included in search engine results and if someone searches for 'abc123host downtime' everytime you post one of those it looks on search results like the host has had an outage even if it hasn't. So these effect peoples businesses and livelyhood.
