Hi I am trying to find a good portal system that isn't post nuke or php nuke something different if I can

I am no big fan of the nukes and branches either

- Webgenerator-X
- Tiki

What these two have in common is that they use Smarty, allows for flexability in design especially if your not fluent in php. Another few worth checking out:

- ezPublish
- typo3
- e107
- DCPortal


- Xoops 2.0

I am aware, xoops was a branch off from nuke, but from what I understand their version 2.0 shows a lot of promise. It uses smarty as well.

It is a matter of site's target audience are like and your own preference in designs.
 
I think you should find and use a portal that is compatabile with the forum script you want to use like YaPP for YaBB SE.
