Hello guys, we are running some sort of free hosting since 2001 and i have been a regular visitor here. its really a cool forum, thanks to peo. I though peo was from some remote island near hawai but now it seems he is from swiss or around there in europe :angel:

Anyway I am requesting all of you who are looking for free hosting and web gurus to suggest what is mostly required in free hosting these days ? (dont move this post to other category bcs this is not an offer , rather i am asking for users about their requirement, so that we can develop on that.)

We are currently offering these features:

A simple and short site address:

Page friendly hosting, make as many page as you want.

Online page editor to design your pages in visual and html mode.

Web based file uploader to upload many files at once, no ftp but i dont think that matters, also we might put few ads on file manager in future because some body needs to pay for the quality hardware that you need :beer:

Image gallery to upload and manage your images.

Now my question is: what else do you need in a good free hosting? Am I missing some thing, fire your ideas and we will try to put that in our serivce. I dont want to promote my service with crap words like unlmited crap and such, no body need what they dont need:devious2: . All I want to develop is a simple system that you can use easily to make your pages and upload your pages and get started very fast.

I am requesting you to sing up to my system, try it and recommend me how to make it better. What is missing :), yes i am requesting users and also gurus to sign up to give me a comment about it. The sign up and activation process will take a minute before your site is up and you can start creating pages...

Please please plase, post back your comments about our system, which has been built in house by us.

My first thought, is on the page I cannot see how much space/transfer that you get with a free account. This will likely turn a lot of people off as most people seem to care the most about that these days.

Also, what features [scripting languages] are supported and what control panel?

Thanks for pointing that out. I have been with paid and free hosting since 7 years now and those things like space, trasfer are not some thing to worry for 90% of the clients as most sites dont need much.

We are offering page friendly hosting, no limits, make as many pages as you want (no limit bcs most people dont make much) and attract as much traffic you can. You can also put few relavent files for sharing files but we dont expect tons of mp3 and zip at the moment.

What panel do we have ? I already said our system is built in, house, there is no scripting support for asp, php, perl, cgi etc. Rather we are trying to upgrade our system and include common stuff that most people need, like iMage gallery is already there, we will also put in a forum and want to know what else does people need!!!

Why dont you sing up to our system and use it and send me your comments. I would really appreciate it, you are the pro :wave: , please...
 
What I'm typically looking for when looking around for hosting for the sites I help with (forum-based most often, hence the largish DB space) :
• TOS and ad network (if relevant) that don't constrict me to 110% kid-safe content (doesn't have to be a full-out adult/porn host either, just one that doesn't have Adsense or similarly TOS'ed ads and/or a sweeping ban on all topics unsuitable for the general public)
• Sometime, non-english (typically french or spanish) language allowed
• 100 MB webspace + 100-200 MB mySQL space
• 2-5 GB bandwidth
• PHP Mail on
• FTP
• PHP + PHPmyAdmin or some similar tool
• 1-2 mySQL DB, allowed to grow as needed within overall quota
• fsockopen on
• Reasonable uptime (doesn't have to be perfect, the sites aren't crucial to anyone's life or livehood, but more than one hour down once in a while becomes annoying)

Nice but not necessary :
• Subdomain
• Ability to use own domain
• A control panel of some sort, especially one that allows unpacking of uploaded archives

So, obviously, I wouldn't quite fit in your target audience.
Compulsory web-based file managers tend to make me steer clear though of course I understand the logic there is in showing ads there first if it can help keep the pages themselves ads-free.

But to me they're the antithesis of user-friendly, with proprietary functions and interfaces that often come nastily in the way when a large number of files is to be uploaded.
With a FTP software once you're clear on directories and file permissions, you're set for nearly everywhere and anything, and able to transfer any given number of files with one sweep of the mouse.

While I would agree with the fact that most people don't use very much space/transfer, it is often a selling point of the service. Perhaps vocalizing your limits on the page may attract more people towards you.

Information like your image gallery scripts, these are all features that should be advertised. I think that could make you a lot more business :cool2:
 
Folks want:

PHP
The ability to host a Website and files
Domain hosting (no subdomains or subdirectories)
No ads or post2host
 
True most want no ads & no posting but you can do both and make separate plans. Some forum needs the latest version of PHP and Myql.

Most people are really picky about wanting Cpanal and having FTP.
 
Is it important to have branded control panel ? or a cool forum like vbulleting or phpbb ?

I have seen that most people , like 60% needs a simple html page where they can put up their personal or business information.

Web base control panel really need. You can see this different.

-if they upload on ftp they will enable chmod files and folders to install forums
-some people can annoy like they have to wait to upload files on browser in each time even worst if it's failed they have upload all over again. Some users pc have to cut off all activity by upload on browser until it's finished.
-but ftp users can drag all files to ftp upload in one time and take a little nap until they install file finish.
-they can use mysql database it need for user install forums also not only forums but include CMS,blog any aplications.
These are features that without control panel and ftp can't grant this option to users.

btw It's may too rushed to suggest about control panel you can have time to updates service a lot you'll find you ans from clients.

But yes, PHP is needed by 99% of people looking for free hosting. So they can run their guestbook, forums, ect.

If you want a html host, you go to freewebs, they offer everything and more than you can ever offer.

No control panel isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. T35 uses only the NetFTP program as their control panel, and as we all know - they're quite successful. :) Security, as you point out, is a bigger issue, though (in this case, anyway).

You are totally wrong about that. In house cp's are way more safer than commercial ones. Thats because hackers download and test those commercial panels to find a hack, once they do , they speread it on forums to other hackers and a party begins.

Our problem was a minor one with some other issue and has been fixed now.

Also our panel is 100% safe and we are sure about that.
