Political Compass

I try to avoid political topics at FWS, but I thought it was time to bring up the political compass again, with the coming elections and all. Which means yes, I know it's been posted before.

Now take the damn test and post your scores.

Interesting...very interesting.

Feel like I'm close to Stalin, or the Pope.

Here are some questions I had a problem with.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is a fundamentally good idea.
It is a fundamentally good idea, is is realistic? No. Can you express that in this test? No.

It's a sad reflection on our society that something as basic as drinking water is now a bottled, branded consumer product
Yeah, because how I feel about consumerization of drinking water defines my political beliefs.

A genuine free market requires restrictions on the ability of predator multinationals to create monopolies
A genuine free market is the absence of restrictions. So the answer is no, but that does not actually relate any information about how you feel about free markets.

All people have their rights, but it is better for all of us that different sorts of people should keep to their own kind.
Do you want them -----rs in your neighborhood yes/no.

People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce
YES! Finally a survey that talks about the hot polical issue of the decade! Those bastard authoritarians wanting to take away reproductive rights from the disabled!

There are no savage and civilised peoples; there are only different cultures
Tell me then, what the difference is between a savage people and a savage culture? AHHHHRRRGGG.

Those who are able to work, and refuse the opportunity, should not expect society's support
Yes, because now we can regulate what people expect. Sure they should expect it, should they get it? Sorry, that question actually relates political affiliation and will not be asked.

When you are troubled, it's better not to think about it, but to keep busy with more cheerful things
No, you should mope around. Strongly Disagree.

That's just on the first three sections.

So far I'm the only bottom-righty. :p

Why the ---- am I here at 4AM. Back to the essay, Ben!

But I have a serious problem with:

When you are troubled, it's better not to think about it, but to keep busy with more cheerful things

Along with a few other questions.

These say NOTHING about your political stance, in my opinion. They are basically "do you fit the stereotype" questions.

Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: 6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.62

This has to be one of the most loaded tests ever. For instance:

"Good parents sometimes have to spank their children."
- That is a personal preference that needs to be considered on an individual basis, it's completely unfair to ask someone to answer one way or the other!

"First-generation immigrants can never be fully integrated within their new country."

"Our civil liberties are being excessively curbed in the name of counter-terrorism."

????? In Australia? No.

"The death penalty should be an option for the most serious crimes."

This is similar to that question about spanking children. It should be decided by the people; I'm not against it - I'm not for it.

"Mothers may have careers, but their first duty is to be homemakers."

Again, this is a loaded question - it's obvious that for any parent that family should come first.

"No one can feel naturally homosexual."

Again, loaded. People can "feel" they're naturally attracted to animals. People can "feel" just about anything, that doesn't make it "right".

Anyhow, I reject any claim I hold any "left wing" beliefs - lefties can kiss my butt, I have no idea how the test determine that's where I "belong". The only "communist" values I respect is 1. universal healthcare, 2. law & order, 3. democratically elected government, 4. public education, and 5. the maintenance of publicly used services, such as roads and parks.

I strongly believe in Copyright, I strongly believe in the right to own a business, I strongly believe in the right to compete, I strongly believe that a person's income should be self-generated; although I also believe in providing adequate assistance for those in need. I strongly believe that any Christian in a position in government should regard their position as to do God's work, I strongly believe that governments should be based on Christian ideals not on secular/non-religious/atheist mentality.

No wonder we disagree so much. I disagree with this for the most part.
