the cookie sounds insecure to me plus never put a raw password in a cookie always encrypt it
to get the HTML produced by php use http://..... to read the info (so the serve gives you the output. If you use dir/file you just get the unparsed code.

some have standard uses ie 21 is ftp but you could use 21 for something else if you want and have ftp on port 666

generally you have to wait for everything in the table to load before it can be displayed.
with images if you use <IMG height=xx width=yy ... > then the browser does not have to load them to see how much room they take up...
I can get perl to run as user me.
with php it runs as user nobody.
so with perl I can have db passwords in a for my eyes only file
with php passwords are viewable by anyone who can get ftp access to your site etc.
I thing running php as a module is more secure than as a cgi...
