Canadian hosting please!

Hi, you may have seen my request in the "free hosting requests" forum. Well truth be told, I'm not really after free hosting - I'm after a couple of month's trial really, but hey that's not a main requirement.

I am currently thinking of taking out iWeb's hosting, although it is much more then I need. Starting today I will be writing the entire site from scratch ready to be uploaded within 2-3 weeks. It will be php-based.

My requirements are simple:
  1. The business is Canadian based, and your servers are located within a Canadian datacentre. As such you have no policy regarding DMCA complaints, nor do you care to create one.
  2. 2008 is at least your 3rd year in business. That is you have been in business for at least 48 months.
  3. Linux hosting
  4. 1GB space+
  5. 40GB bandwidth+
  6. Dedicated IP
  7. All standard features - cpanel, php, cgi, ftp, smtp/pop3 etc
  8. No file type/size restrictions
  9. Unlimited sites/domains
  10. Unlimited features
Ideally I'd like to spend $6/m or less, and even more ideally I'd like 2-3 months free on trial.

I don't wish to transfer the domain, or have any domains registered through you as I'll keep using my preferred registrar, so there's no need to offer a free domain etc with the package.

It will be kind of hard to find a 2-3 months or free trial.Maybe 1 month.
Anyway goodluck finding the host that fit your needs.

Regards
SinxHost

That would be fine, or start off on a no-obligation grace period which I could pay at the end of the period when I've decided to continue their service - better then nothing. It isn't a requirement - but you know, if you don't ask you don't get.

^^ Your hosting business has been running for 12 months, and your servers are located in the USA and therefore must be DMCA compliant, I'll refer to your policy in your Terms of Service: Transmission, storage, or presentation of any information, data or material in violation of any United States Federal, State, City or United Kingdom law is prohibited.

Therefore you don't meet my requirements, please stick with my requirements. I need Canadian hosting, not USA hosting, not European hosting, not Australian hosting for that matter either. And I'd rather go with iWeb then a host in their 1st or 2nd year of business, thanks all the same.

I'm now considering canaca.com ...

I have had data centers in canada. it lags. we now have dataceters in Texas, Florida, Chicago, Bahamas.

If your fine with that. 1 month free.

Vanguard-Hosting.com

They must have been really bad then - my datacenter is in canada, and I get a really good transfer rate (We have a 10Mbps dedicated unmetered connection, and get the full transfer rate.) then again, I suppose it could just be where you are located.

Meksilon: Sadly, we don't meet your second requirement. Nor would we give you 1GB space, we would however give you 500MB. With what your asking for I would recommend a reseller account, simply because it would be easier.

I would recommend staying away from canaca.com any any "large" company if you dont want DMCA rules attached to your site.

You need to find an smaller hosting provider in Canada. TorXCom (my company) is only 1 year old, however I have had over 10 years of experience in the industry. I will apologize the site you will see is an place marker, for our new site coming soon.

If you are interested in what you requested above please check my offer:
2.5GB Space / 50GB Transfer - $4.99/month
Dedicated ip - $1.50/month
Total monthly price - $6.49/month

However I am willing to reduce this to $5.99/month if you contact me before ordering.

Your whole "No DMCA" is a bit odd to me. Is there a specific reason why you don't want to deal with the DMCA complaint (possibly)? My guess is it would be related to illegal items, and would therefor be impossible to host you for the better sake of a webhosting company. If you could explain as to why you do not want the DMCA then that would be nice.

Just to give you a heads up, In order to avoid DMCA and or copyright laws you may want to search for a host that both operates and has a physical address location in which the laws do not apply..

Which is why he is looking for a Canadian hosting company :). Good to see somebody that knows what they are looking for, best of luck.

No self-respecting host would care about the laws of another jurisdiction. Besides, iWeb is huge and they already host non-dmca compliant websites, for instance dvdfab.com.

Thankyou for your offer, it will be considered. I can see your site is still incomplete, and you seem to have no terms of service for me to review. Also could you please confirm my other requirements:
  • No file type/size restrictions
  • Unlimited sites/domains
Thanks!

Firstly I'm Australian - our copyright act is far more lax even after it was amended in 2006 with the WIPO treaty's "requirements" - for instance in 2006 the amendment act passed into law, making recording television shows (time-shifting) technically legal for the first time. Secondly, the site I wish to build will be legal in Canada - would most likely be "considered legal" by Australia (if you will check out ozmodchips.com which is an Australian-based business hosted in an Australian datacentre), and by many more lax European countries like The Netherlands. I don't want legal problems, so I don't want to host it anywhere where there's even the slightest chance I would be breaking any applicable copyright-related laws.

Also a thanks to webadpro for the testimonial, I'm sure LSComputers appreciates it!

Thanks. I saw upscalehost.com before, but the very mention of DMCA turned me away and makes me suspicious that they may have made some deal with the RIAA or MPAA regarding IP "rights". See here:
  • Abuse Team - DMCA, Spamming & Phising Notices | Available Mon - Fri from 9am - 5pm EST
Why else even mention it? It doesn't appear in the TOS or AUP so maybe they just put that there to make IP holders feel like they care about their IP "rights" (according to the WIPO anyway) more then they actually do.

I'd prefer iWeb over the other two - digitallyjustified is very expensive, and exinant.com is more restrictive with the bandwidth (not to mention their checkout system doesn't work correctly).

Anyway at this stage I'm looking to go with TorXCom, just waiting to hear back from LS on those features, and the TOS policy. By the way, if you'd be happy to start the billing cycle a few weeks after creating the account (short free period), I'd be happy to set up the account right away once my questions have been answered - I'll enter my c/c num and you could bill me starting from Feb 1st or something. This would give me time to explore your hosting and just confirm everything's right for me, the site itself won't be uploaded until near the end of the month most likely! If you would agree to that I would be happy to agree to a 3-month billing cycle (quarterly payments).

Okay. I like the TorXCom offer. The site will be ready for uploading (hopefully) before Australia Day (25-1-07). If there are any other offers then now is the time to make them!
