----ing drivers

I got my new computer today:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
256MB Ram
Windows XP

Now, the problem is, I got 4 unidentified hardware devices in that system.

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller (dunno why it's their twice)
SM Controller

Now, I tried installing the drivers for these things from the winxp cd, win98, soundblaster(my sound card is an onboard sound blaster 16 pci), and even the updated drivers from creative labs site.

Now none of them don't work. How can I get the ----ing sound card, ethernet controller, and whatever the ---- the sm controller is, to work?

Hey

3 things you should try

1: unplug ALL the things from your motherboard, just leave the bare minimum, boot up, shut down, replug all the extra things. and try to update drivers.

2: another thing could be "corrupted" resources. Device Manager->the thing you want to update->Properties->resources->check if theres a red crossed circle in the list on the the blue chip icon. change it so its ok and reboot, and try to update drivers again,

3: Is it compatible with XP???

As long as they are not glued (onboard) to the motherboard, you can take them off. Open the case and take off the PCI cards, except video so your monitor works.

Or take it back to micro-bytes so they fix it for you :)

They are onboard. :confused2

And Micro-bytes sucks....they take a friggin week to install a ethernet card.

And I didn't buy it from Micro-Bytes.

haha

OnBoard,
Thats the worst thing... to have your stuff onboard.
Imagine your sound card died, this means replace the WHOLE motherboard, same for upgrades, whole mobo has to go....

I didnt know MB is so slow...
Where did you get it?

La Centrale Informatique?
Majestic?

Take it back where you bought it,
They'll make it work fast :)

Actually, I think I can disable onboard and use a pci sound card for sound. I know I can do that with vid cards.

Now, I bought the computer off the internet so uhhhh....yea....
Oh well, it must be my Windows XP. I just formated and I'm going to install Windows 98.

Yeah!

Win98, best OS ever! :biggrin2:

does your mobo have PCI slots at all? so you can disable onboard and use external?

Oh, ok

In this case your are ok.

I was always thinking all-in-1 motherboards had no pci slots at all.
I'm not use to this kind :)

How's the os install going?
And where did you get it from? (the pc) ebay? or some online retailer?
