problem with dlink DWL-G520

hi guys,

i've brought wireless adapter (DLINK DWL-G20 h/w ver B3, F/W ver 4.30) and install it according to the guidelines.

after the installation, I found out that the pc's getting lag whenever i play multiplayer games or single player games.

well, i have tried to system restore back and never have had lagged from pc during gameplay.

and now i couldn't able to play any games at all after installation of device. as i suspect, it might either due to the drivers or perhaps its own wireless adapter. i would really need help according to this situation.

Wireless adapters on the internet run noticeably slower than normal LAN cards. Maybe you are just not used to the slow net connection. Maybe you are too far away from the router, move the computer closer. It may be the card itself is somewhat defective.

Hello beely I'm not very informed on wireless adapters sorry hopefully someone should be able to help you out. There are others ways which you can Increase your internet connection speed though. Please check out my post

An excellent program that is FREE you can use to really put your internet connection into overdrive is http://www.cablenut.com/ once dowladed and installed I suggest using http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=2784 settings for all OS

Goodluck :)

hello guys, thank and really appreciate you all to drop by for help.

i have tested out playing mission game (single player mode) without network connection, and yet it's still lag anyway. probably, i'm sure that it's not cause of the internet, and as my assumptions regarding to the problem are :

- driver problem
- conflict with other cards eg: sound card, graphic card?
- less ram resources ?

[ iseedeadwood ] dude, that's impressive tweak performance, but i think it still couldn't able to solve my problem yet. ;)

Hint: Never use wifi when possible, it is extremely slow and laggy.

Really, my entire house is WiFi. It would blow your mind.

As for the OP:

WiFi, is only as strong as the PC and the connection you give it. Hence, just like a cordless phone, be concerned with Range and Channel. Everyone forgets to modify the Channel that their router and cards run on. 11 By default in the USA. You can choose any channel you want in reality.

Also, ALL network connectivity requires CPU and RAM Utilization when under stress... moreso with wifi because of added Driver Functions.

Shut down all the crap that sits in the system tray when playing your game. I bet that Game goes crazy on Resource Use, nevermind the fact that you are demanding high network utilization.

Then of course, there's always your ISP. Ping/Tracert/Netstat are your best friends

Hello beely,

I have had trouble with the dlink adapters in the past. Right now I'm using a Netgear adapter and it is working fine. I rarely lag on games like CS when there are 30 users in the game. Unless the computer itself is being strained by all the resources that are being used for being in a game that is taking a lot of memory, cpu, etc.

thx dude for further ideas that posted anyway.

i have figured out that cause of heavy load from the wireless adapter, that you all have been mentioned before. i did disabled the 108mbps feature, including the super g and the XR mode, and finally, it's working well in gaming without lagging.

however i still wondering whether additional ram and the higher performance processor could able to overcome the heavy load anyway.

thx guys for the posts and the ideas. ;)
