reset uploads...losing place..

I frequently upload large files. I use Smart FTP 2.0 to do it. The thing is the uploads will sometimes reset themselves. Now I mean files that are 100MB-700-1.3GB. Now my uploads are slow, I'll give to that. about 11hours to uplad 300MB. Now when a file gets 40 or so MB in it really tees me off when I go to restart the upload, and instead of continuing it restarts the upload. I've had friends upload 800MB files no trouble at all. Uploaded for 3 days straight with no problems. I've uploaded entire 300MB files just fine. But some times I can barely get even 20MB uploaded. I don't even have to mess with it. I can be sitting there uploading, and boom it just jumps to zero and starts counting up again. I would really like to know how to dispose of this problem as it REALLY wastes my time.

Problem with that is that people have to download the split files. If I could rejoin them server side I would do the splitting, but it doesn't look too professional when I can't rejoin them.
